Lavender & White

Buongiorno! I wanted to show off my Italian skills, but really I still only know how to say, "La donna legge il giornale" which is super helpful for our trip. Jeff and I are still honeymooning it up in Italy and hopefully stuffing our faces with all of the pasta and gelato. Here's another previously scheduled post.

Sweater (similar) and Skirt (similar) - Loft / Sandals (similar) - Sole Society / Necklace and Bracelet (similar) - Stella & Dot

I have no idea why, but I had the hardest time styling this skirt. Like, last summer I'm pretty sure I wore it once. It's just a white skirt. In my brain I can think of 100 ways to wear it (or really, at least 4) but then in reality they never quite work out. Until I decided to pair it with this pretty lavender sweater for work. And then when I got to work I topped it with a giant fleece because the inside of my office is the same temperature as the inside of a glacier. I was trying to do blazers for work layers, but that is so not working out.

June Budget

Every month I post about my clothing budget. My budget per month is $300, which to some may seem like a lot and to others a little, but feels just right for me. You can read my thoughts on my 2014 budget here

Oh, and yeah, we're still honeymooning in Italy so this post is on autopilot thanks to past me.

So remember last month when I said June was going to either be a really low or really high spending month? Turns out really high. And most of that was done before it was actually June (my last budget post went up on 5/29). I think I got excited that a) there was a little wiggle room since I was so far under budget last month and b) I felt like I could justify some things for our trip to Italy, like comfy sandals I could walk around in, a pretty swimsuit for the Amalfi Coast, and a fancy skirt because, well, who doesn't want a fancy white skirt for their honeymoon? I also grabbed these pink pumps for our rehearsal dinner after buying and returning at least 10 pairs of heels that weren't quite right (it was weirdly easier to buy shoes for the wedding itself!) and a couple of casual tops.

Here's the damage for June:

Ann Taylor Skirt - originally $129, on sale $81.27
Michael Kors Sandals (similar shown - mine just have studs down the center) - originally $125, on sale $79.97
Robin Piccone Swimsuit - originally $138, on sale $82.80
Jessica Simpson Pumps - $88.95
Frenchi Tank - originally $28, on sale $15.90
Ann Taylor Tank - originally $59.50, on sale $37.49
Halogen Tank - originally $25, on sale $14.90

Total Spent: $401.28
Total Saved: $192.17

Since we're halfway through the year now (!!!), here's a recap of what I've spent so far in 2015:
January: $309.38
February: $256.22
March: $300.33
April: $228.74
May: $196.20
June: $401.28

Total Spent: $1,692.15
Average Per Month: $282.03

So even though I went a little over for this month, I can rest easy knowing I'm still under budget overall for the year.

How did your budgeting go for June?

Summer Sweater

Oh hello there! I'm currently on my honeymoon in Italia (more vino, please!) so here's a previously scheduled post for your viewing pleasure.

Sweater - Loft / Shorts - JCrew Factory / Sandals - Sole Society / Bag (similar) - Ann Taylor / Watch - Wristology / Necklace - Stella & Dot

So guys. This top.

I know, right?

It's just a sweater with cutouts, but it is somehow my most complimented item, by everyone from college kids to old ladies. Paired with some short shorts it looks decidedly young, but with capris or white jeans I could see my mom wanting to wear it too. Or maybe even my grandma. She's pretty hip.

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Viva Italia!

Oh hey! We're married! We're off to Italy for our honeymoon! I like exclamation points!

I was going to cue up a bunch of guest posts for you guys while I'm gone for the next two weeks, but then I ran out of time and instead am just using up my backlog of outfit posts, you know, robbing Peter to pay Paul, screwing myself over when I get back from our trip, whatever you want to call it. So there's a bit of style coming your way while I'm gone.

Rehearsal Dinner

Dress (same dress with silver beading, same dress in different colors) - Adrianna Papell / Heels - Jessica Simpson / Bag (similar) - unknown (from Nordstrom Rack)

You guys!! It's happening! Today is our rehearsal dinner, and tomorrow is the big day!! I'm so excited I might pee my pants or something. And when I say "my pants" I mean this fancy sparkly dress I've been waiting almost a year to wear. I searched for white or silver strappy heels literally for months to pair with it, but ended up going with these bright pink suede heels because, well, why not? Feels a little like Barbie heading out on a hot date, but you know, in a good way. Semi-related: have you seen the Barbie Style Instagram account? So so good.

Anyway, my brain is no longer working right. Have a great weekend! If you want to see some wedding snaps, follow @kristinadoes on Instagram or find our hashtag, #marryabarry.

Pattern Play

Dress and Necklace (similar) - JCrew Factory / Bag and Heels (similar) - Sole Society

Oh hey! It's an exciting week - yesterday my brother and his wife flew in from South Korea so we had a little welcome home dinner, as of today I'm officially on vacation through the 4th of July, and tonight we're having a 90th birthday party downtown for my grandma. I'm hoping the weather plays along so we can celebrate out along the river front and so I can wear this fun printed dress.

I mentioned in the last budget post that it's not the most flattering shape on me (hellooooo, potato sack!) but I love the print so much that I don't really care. For curvy girls, if you want to go with oversized clothing like this you should always try to size down - I usually wear a 10 or 12 at JCrew Factory and the 10 was a much better fit. While this dress is so fun dressed up, I also plan on wearing it dressed down with flat sandals and a jean jacket all summer long.

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Hung out with some friends for the Blackhawks game. I don't really care about hockey, but, you know, #itsthecup #fairweatherfan. Luckily I managed to avoid all of the Malort ;)
...Had a little dance practice with the boo, during which we stayed focused for about 2 minutes and then ended up dancing around the living room to Shut Up and Dance on repeat.
...Handed off all of our wedding DIY's to our planner and crossed a bunch of stuff off of the to-do list. Hiring a wedding planner was hands down the best decision we made in the planning process, the big day is now less than a week away and I'm as cool as a cucumber. Semi-related, I found a bottle of cucumber melon lotion in my purse this weekend. I'm not sure where it came from, since Bath & Body Works just re-released their signature scents.
...Had dinner at Irazu and am now dreaming of pepito sandwiches and oatmeal shakes.

I hope you had a good one!

Lobbing It Off

Why is it that we always want the hairstyles we can't have? I was perfectly content with having long hair and even wanted it to grow longer, but ever since I got engaged and started "growing it for the wedding" (ahem, it didn't grow at all. silly hair.) all I've wanted to do is cut it off. I'm no stranger to short hair, in the past I had a pixie and went through several iterations of bobs. Now I can't get the lob (or long bob) out of my head. It feels so perfectly "now" and looks so fun to style. I know it's so cliche to cut your hair short post-wedding, but I just can't help myself. I saw my hair stylist for a little trim last weekend, and we decided next time I come in we're doing something fun - lob, here I come!

Playing It Cool

Shirt (similar) - Loft / Jacket (similar) - Old Navy / Jeans - Gap / Booties (similar) - Kelly & Katie / Bag - Sole Society

Okay, so seriously, is it June or not? My style posts were on a pretty good spring high (there were dresses! and more dresses!) but now lately I've been back in fall. I know that today it's about 85 degrees out, but on Friday night when we wanted to do some good patio sitting for my friend's birthday it in the 50's, so I had to pull out some layers and booties (and maybe some blankets).

Let's talk about a little style insecurity I have. I've noticed lately that the only times I'm truly stumped on what to wear is when we're heading out a little further west in the city (think Wicker Park, Bucktown, the West Loop) - it's where the hipsters tend to congregate, so everyone seems to be dressed down and somehow effortlessly cool. So I try to be effortlessly cool by trying on everything in my closet, which is, you know, super effortless. And then every time I end up in this same tee shirt paired with lots of black. Like really, every time. I don't know how you got so far into my head Wicker Park, but please stop messing with me.

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Went out for a friend's birthday for dinner at West End (yaaaaaaaay steak sammies!!) and drinks out on the patio at Kaiser Tiger. It was a little chilly (we wrapped up in blankets and they even started a bonfire for us) but the patio is so nice - I can't wait to go back this summer.
...Packed up all of our wedding DIY's to send off to our planner - I kind of like that she asked for everything in advance because it means I won't be working on things up until the day before/totally freaking out. Well, maybe still freaking out.
...Hit up Square One again - additional wine and cheese were required!!
...Went out to the burbs for dinner with Jeff's parents and to meet his sister's new boyfriend - hopefully we didn't freak him out with too much wedding talk!

I hope you had a good one!

Current Wishlist

My wishlist seems strangely cohesive this month - I'm looking for blue and white, stripes, pink and orange scarves, and metallic accessories! What are you currently wishing for?

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9

Sorry for the super short post for your Friday, my brain is just about fried out so this is all I can handle. Tonight I plan on sipping a few cocktails and trying to unwind, recharge, and forget about my gigantic to-do list, but my wedding is now just two weeks away so I'm not sure that'll happen! Hope you have a good weekend!!
