Our Wedding: Photos Around Town

What? More wedding photos?! I know, I know, they're never going to end ;) After our first look on the riverwalk, we went to Olive Park and the Lincoln Park Zoo for more photos, during which the weather somehow went from cool and foggy to sunny and hot to about to pour. Oh, Chicago in the spring ;)

Dresses - Donna Morgan (short and long). We decided on dresses just before my sister realized she was pregnant - luckily the dresses were from Nordstrom, easy returns!

January Budget

Every month I post about my clothing budget. My budget per month is $300, which to some may seem like a lot and to others a little, but feels just right for me. You can read my thoughts on my 2015 budget here

Well, it appears I managed to forget what month it is. Instead of sweaters and boots, I went for dresses and other spring-y attire. I guess that happened last January too - what can I say, I'm dreaming of spring! A few of these items managed to make the trip to Florida last week, but I guess I'll have to plan something else to give all those dresses their time in the sun!

Surprisingly I was way under budget in January, which is weird since traditionally I overspend at the beginning of the year. I have a feeling I'm just going to go nuts in February though - I recently gave my sister my black Hunter boots so now I'm dreaming of a red pair. I also still have a little extra cash from Christmas burning a hole in my pocket, and I'm still dreaming about this pleated leather number.

So anyway, enough rambling - here's the damage for January:

Gap Shift Dress - originally $59.95, on sale $35.97.
Gap Striped Dress - originally $69.95, on sale $41.97. This is a great dupe of a dress that was popular at Nordstrom last fall (ahem, that I maybe purchased in the wrong size and still have in my closet and need to return...)
Gap Red Crossbody - originally $39.95, on sale $22.10. I never would have guessed it, but this little red bag goes with everything. Ahem. Ahem.
Old Navy Distressed White Jeans - originally $36.94, on sale $19.67. These run a little big, I would definitely recommend sizing down!
Old Navy Gray Sweater Tank - originally $19.94, on sale $11.96.
Ann Taylor Bow Belt - originally $45.50, on sale $16. I haven't gotten to wear this yet, but I'm excited to pair it with pencil skirts and dresses for a few dressier days I have coming up.
Old Navy Tee Dress - originally $24.94, on sale $10.70. I seriously couldn't believe this dress was such good quality for the price - it's stretchy and comfortable, but thick enough fabric to be super flattering. Bring it on, summer!

Total Spent: $158.37
Total Saved: $138.80

Did you budget this month? How did you do?

The Best Scrambled Eggs

Okay, I know. You know how to make scrambled eggs. (Unless you're my friend from college, who used to beg her roommates every Saturday to make eggs for her.) I thought I knew how to make scrambled eggs. In fact, I thought I did a pretty damn good job. Then I heard about "low and slow" scrambling, and my life has changed. I've tried a couple of different "low and slow" methods, but this one is definitely the winner. They turn out super fluffy and not the least bit dry. I made them for Jeff without telling him I was trying something new, and he totally freaked for them.

So what does "low and slow" mean? Well basically, you cook the eggs over super low heat for a long amount of time, instead of over higher heat for a short amount of time. Oh, you didn't need that explanation? My bad.

(Also, no I don't eat cream cheese on my bagels. I know, I know, what a weirdo.)

So what you're going to do is take two eggs. Or three, or four, you know, depending on your appetite. You're going to crack them into a bowl, add a splash of milk, and then mix them up with a whisk (or a fork if you don't have a whisk, or, ahem, are too lazy to find yours).

Then take your favorite pan and give it a mist of olive oil if you're lucky enough to have an olive oil mister, or you know, a spray of some other non-stick spray would work. Then add the eggs to the pan while it's still cold, and then put it over low heat. If you're feeling crazy, add a glob or two of butter into the mix.

So here's the key part of this particular "low and slow" method: stir continuously. Make sure you're scraping the bottom of the pan as you go so that everything cooks really evenly. The eggs should slowly get less opaque, and then start to cook. When they're bunching up and just starting to look done, turn off the heat (they'll continue to cook a little after you take them off the heat, and you definitely don't want to overdo it). At this point, I like to stir in a little bit of cheese. And then I dig in.

And voila! The best scrambled eggs you'll ever make!

Current Wishlist

Oh hey there! I'm still in Florida (follow along on Instagram or Snapchat: kristinadoes) so here's a little something on autopost. New arrivals have been all over the place, and I'm drooling. I actually have a little extra cash burning a hole in my pocket, but I think it's going to have to go with this pleated skirt. I've had it on my wishlist since summer and lately have been checking it daily to see if it's gone on sale. That level of obsession definitely deserves a purchase, amiright? Anyway, here are a few other items on my current wishlist:

Our Wedding: First Look

Okay, so I didn't "get" first looks before our wedding. I didn't actually even really want to have one. Buuuuuuuut... because of our venue's schedule, we weren't able to have the ceremony until 6. And with Chicago's traffic, that wouldn't have given us the time to go anywhere for photos. So I accepted that we would have to do pre-ceremony photos, which meant a first look.

And now that I got to do one, I am so glad I did. It was really special to have a private moment with Jeff (even though we were in a not so private area!) before the craziness of the day. We didn't quite realize that the riverwalk had just opened and that the city was crawling with extra people because the Blackhawks had just won the Stanley Cup, and the riverwalk was packed! Our photographers managed to clear out a little area for us, and everyone on the riverwalk (and in the boats on the river... and on the streets above) cheered when I tapped Jeff on the shoulder and he turned around. We were so excited that we just kept talking and talking (ahem, and waving at boats) until the photographers had to shout at us to start posing.

What to Wear When It's Like, Really Cold

Sweater - Patagonia (gift) / Shirt - J. Crew Factory / Denim - Madewell / Boot Socks - Banana Republic / Boots - Sperry / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Bracelet - Michael Kors / Watch - Wristology / Glasses - c/o Firmoo

So I don't know if you heard, but this week it was like, really cold. In Chicago we had wind chills down to -25. My coworkers were visiting from California and didn't bring hats, and I'm pretty sure we almost killed them when we decided to walk to dinner. I, however, was nice and toasty, thanks to this combo. Plus a coat, hat, hood, and scarf wrapped around my entire face. Sooooo glad I'm heading to Florida for a little vacay tomorrow!

This Patagonia sweater was a Christmas present from my in-laws, and errrrmygeeeeerd you guys it's my new favorite thing.Sometimes more expensive items seem like a waste of money or the same as their cheaper counterparts, but not this guy! It is seriously so warm and incredibly soft.  I'm never wearing a regular sweatshirt or fleece again.

The only bad part of my new sweater? Now I end up hardcore #twinning with the hubs. I'm pretty sure we wore the exact same thing to brunch over the weekend, despite having gotten ready in the same room. Le sigh.

Blanket > Scarf

Shirt - J.Crew Factory (Christmas gifty!) / Denim (similar) - Gap / Scarf (similar) - SheIn / Booties (similar) - Target / Necklace (similar) - BaubleBar / Watch - Wristology / Bag - Gap

What to do when the wind chill is negative 15? Ignore the whole "scarf" thing, and just completely cover yourself with your blanket scarf. Oh, and add your new little red bag, because you love it and you just can't help yourself. Even when it makes you look like you're a month late style wise #bringbackchristmas.

This Weekend...

This weekend...

...I initially had NO plans and thought we'd be taking it easy. Ummmm, nope! Started the weekend off strong with a coworker hang Friday afternoon/night and then a little movie night with the boo.
...Bought a dining room table! After going into Walter E. Smithe last weekend, then having a home consult during the week, then going back twice this weekend we finally came to a decision. The inspo was this pic, and I'm not sure that this link will work but this is what we ended up custom designing.
...Went to a family dinner at my grandma's house. This is pretty typical for our family, but I was expecting to see maybe 8-10 people, and instead there were over 20. And my grandma set up a bar in her living room. So yeah, it was an interesting night :)
...Had to stop for emergency tacos. Twice. What are emergency tacos? When you need a taco, and it's an emergency ;)
...Had Jeff's parent's over to see the progress we've made on the place, and then braved the cold for brunch at Ampersand. Why aren't all breakfast foods covered in a slab of brisket??

I hope you had a good one!

Our Wedding: Getting Ready

Oh hey there! I'm back today with more of our wedding photos. We got ready at the Renaissance in the loop. We spent the morning popping bottles watching a sweet slideshow one of my friends put together. It was kind of crazy - there were seven bridesmaids plus moms and my sister in law getting hair and makeup. The one thing I would change? I would have spent the extra $$$ to hire a second person for hair so we could have spent three hours getting ready instead of six! Hindsight is 20/20, am I right?
