Review: Not Your Mother's Clean Freak Dry Shampoo

I'm still on a journey to find the perfect dry shampoo.  While I like the other brands I use, I'm always looking for one that has less white residue and a better smell.  I'd heard good things about Not Your Mother's, so I thought I'd give it a try.

This one isn't really my favorite.  It has a lot less white residue than other dry shampoos, so if I miss a spot while I'm rubbing it in it doesn't look like I'm graying, and the smell is different than others I've tried (although it still can't be called "good").  But the real problem is, it doesn't seem to work very well.  I've tried spraying this into my hair like I usually do before bed, and still wake up with some greasies.  Even when I add more product in the morning, my hair still doesn't look clean or volumized.  Sorry Clean Freak, but you are not for me!

Do you have a favorite dry shampoo?  If so let me know, I'd love to try it!

  1. I've tried this dry shampoo and had the same blah feelings towards it. I also felt it left my hair really funky. I'm currently trying out dove and it's definitely whiter than the others but it's gone by the time I wake up. I feel it makes my hair knottier than my usual suave brand but I like the way dove sprays better. Lots of force lol.

  2. That's too bad, I've been wondering about this dry shampoo. I probably won't try it out since I'm super picky!

  4. Oh too bad.. I've only used the one by Tres'me... but I've actually heard great things about baking soda! A friend of mine used it.. worth a shot, probably the cheapest one you could find! Good luck!

  5. Me too! I'm in search of the perfect dry shampoo also. The first one I tried was Suave and I think it's too powdery and WAY too strong smelling. It also doesn't add much in the way of volume or texture. The other day I picked up Dove's dry shampoo and so far I really like it. It's spray is INTENSE but fine (as far as it being a fine mist), it is not very powdery, and the smell isn't nearly as strong as Suave's and it's much nicer smelling. I do feel like I need to use more of the Dove one, but I don't really mind. The can is larger than the Suave one, and maybe that's because you need to use more? Over all, it's too early to for me to say if I love it, but I will definitely not be buying the Suave one again. Especially since they're about the same price (I picked the Dove one up at Target for about $4 I think). Maybe give that one a shot.

  6. My favorite is Batiste. They have a bunch of different types too. They have a ton of scents that I have never tried, but sound interesting. I've only tried the "original" and the "deep and dark brown" ones. I've always had great volume and clean-ness from Batiste, but I was getting that white residue with the original. When I found the deep and dark brown type, my problem was solved as it sprayed with dark coloring. They do have different colors like "light and blonde" and "medium and brunette". The thing is I don't find the scent particularly great.

  7. I've also actually tried the dry shampoo powder from Lush and it smells great and there isn't really white residue. I feel like I need to use a lot though to get my hair clean and volumized.

  8. Argh, I hate it when a product doesn't fully deliver. My dry shampoo hunt continues, too!

  10. I actually have tried Batiste and didn't really like it, but there are a ton of scents so maybe I just didn't pick a good one.

  11. Yeah I didn't really like the Batiste scents either, and I'm unsure of what color of theirs to put in my hair so I haven't tried those ones. I want to try Lush, except I'm scared to go in that store again because it makes me want to spend all of my money ;)

  13. I've been wanting to try making my own, it sounds much more economical :)

  14. Oh really?? I've still been using it to finish the bottle and I feel like I have to put so much in for it to do anything.

  15. I'll have to try Dove, that's a brand I haven't tried before. I was using Suave for a long time but never liked it too much.

  16. So I've been using the Dove stuff quite frequently since I posted my first comment and I love it. It adds a lovely amount of texture and volume to my hair, adds a nice shine, and give my hair an over all nice feel. If you are still looking for a dry shampoo and haven't tried this one, I highly recommend this one. :D
