More Bell Sleeves

When I snagged this top in Charleston I thought of it as only something I would ever wear with shorts, or maybe white jeans if I wanted to go for a full on diva vibe. But really, it turns out regular jeans work too! It just needs to be paired with summery accessories, like these beautiful espadrille sandals I snagged - aren't they gorgeous?! I love that they really strap your feet in, so there's no slipping or sliding - makes them easy to walk in despite the height, and super comfy. They also come in a tan and the most beautiful gray color, which I'm also seriously considering. Not that I need more sandals - the shoe space in my closet is currently exploding! I was going to do something about my closet last weekend, but I somehow never quite found the time - send help please!!

What's Your Dream Trip?

Where would you go if you could travel anywhere in the world?

I actually never left the country until the end of my college years for an epic, almost free trip to the Bahamas with a friend whose family owned an island (yes, apparently that's a thing, and also, why am I no longer friends with him?!). Well, I guess there also was one day trip to Canada, but we only went to Sault Ste. Marie for lunch and then left so I don't really count it. This was back in the day when you could get into Canada with just a driver's license (or in my younger sister's case, her library card!!) so it didn't really feel like you were leaving the country.

To me, going on an international trip just didn't seem like something I could actually do. Like how now I don't quite understand that I could just go to the doctor and get Lasik surgery if I wanted to. Literally, the concept that I could just buy airline tickets and go just didn't occur to me, until Jeff started wanting to go on a big trip with me (that sneaky man was looking for a place to propose). We've now taken three big trips out of the country, and my travel bug is still itching us to do more.

So my dream trip? Right now it's Paris. I know it's so cliché and that everyone's dream trip is Paris, but I just can't help myself. The tiny hipster inside of me that tries to avoid clichés at all costs has ensured that we've visited Morocco and Vietnam, but somehow not France! I studied French for six years in school and somehow retained none of the language but all of the dreams of Paris. I would love to stroll down pretty tree-lined avenues eating a baguette, see the Eiffel Tower twinkle at night, load up on all of the cheese and rosé, check out the Louvre and the Centre Pompidou, and do some serious shopping damage on the Champs Élysées. Or at least some serious window-shopping damage. From Paris we would rent a cute little convertible and drive down through Provence and the French Riviera, and maybe even end our trip in northern Italy. A girl can dream, right?

Heat Wave!

Oh hey there, happy Tuesday (aka, my Monday ;)!! I had yesterday off of work for President's Day, and as usual, I had big plans of accomplishing a lot, but ended up crossing one thing off the list and then spent the rest of the day shopping - whoops! I tried on a lot but only managed to buy one thing, but I took a lot of fitting room snaps so I think a little review is in order for tomorrow. At least I made it out of the house yesterday - the last time I had a three day weekend I ended up spending all of my Monday on the couch. I'm nothing if not an excellent couch potato.

Of course, I basically had to go outside, because Chicago has been in the middle of a heat wave the past few days. Like a no coat, windows open kind of heat wave. It's absolutely nuts for this time of year in Chicago. I basically had to pull out some of my warmer weather pieces, like these white jeans. Usually they wait at least another month to make their first appearance of the year! I actually only have one pair of white jeans in my closet right now but I'm thinking I need a backup - maybe this pair that claims to resist stains. Because if you're wearing white jeans, it's basically a given that you'll spill something on yourself. Or that a strange dog will jump on you and leave muddy footprints behind, or that a guy will hit you with his bike tire, both things that have killed my white jeans in the past. RIP.

I also was excited to wear this bell-sleeved tee again, except this time without a jacket! That is, until I drove up to my parents' house where it was 10 degrees cooler, and then my sister made fun of me for not selecting a weather-appropriate ensemble. Whoops. This tee has quickly become a favorite in my closet - the blush pink is so pretty, plus it's really easy to wear. I saw a ton of them in stores yesterday, and discovered it also comes in black and olive, in case pink isn't your thing ;)

How did we get to Thursday again?! I swear, the weeks go by so fast these days - not that I'm complaining that we're almost at the weekend. I get Monday off of work for President's Day (which was a surprise to me - I just realized it haha ;) which means three day weekend!! Jeff doesn't get the day off so I'm planning on using it for a lot of me time - hopefully a barre class, a mani pedi, and a little organizing are on the menu.

I think part of the reason why this week felt so short was because of Valentine's Day. Jeff usually works from home most weeknights (and I'm usually busy freelancing or blogging!) so our weeknights usually follow a pretty standard routine. It was so fun to break up that routine with a mid-week date night!

Let me tell you, I heard so many people complaining this year about how they didn't want to go out to dinner for Valentine's Day because of the crowds and the prices, but that was not the reality I experienced. Seriously, the restaurant we went to wasn't even full (and you usually need reservations even on a weeknight!) and didn't have a fancy special menu. Maybe all of the Valentine's Day haters out there helped us out because we ended up having a great night (thanks in part to that bottle of wine we shared ;)

I don't usually dress up for Valentine's Day - Chicago is seriously so casual that I really only ever see people dressed up for New Year's. I decided to go for it this year though, because, you know, dressing up is fun. Plus, I managed to snag this pretty bell-sleeve dress on sale - it was initially sold out, but I stalked it obsessively enough to notice when my size was available again and jumped on it. The dress is really just a simple black shift, but the pretty lace-trimmed sleeves make it! Paired with some pretty blush accessories (would you believe that the clutch is actually the insert from one of my work bags?!) and I was Valentine's ready. Well, my hair helps too ;)
