Rainbow Bright

Tee - J. Crew / Shorts - J. Crew Factory / Bag - Clare V / Sandals (similar here, here, and here) - Ann Taylor / Earrings (similar herehere, and here) - Charming Charlie / Necklace - Stella & Dot

Okay, so I know Rainbow Brite wore a whole lot more color than I'm wearing here, but this outfit just makes me think of her! Sometimes clothes should be serious, but sometimes you should just wear a rainbow shirt with bright pink earrings and green sandals. Am I right or am I right?

I shared this tee in my budget post yesterday, and really like I said, it's the most fun thing to wear. I love that the rainbow stripes give it a little retro vibe, and the flowy cut of the sleeves makes it so much more flattering and fun than a regular tee. Paired with white shorts, it's perfect for summer! Of course, paired with white shorts, it is not the best for hanging out with a bunch of toddlers, which is where I ended up wearing this outfit. Whoops. Somehow I survived the chalk / sprinklers / playing games on the ground / eating barbecue seated next to a three year old unscathed. Praise be.

I briefly mentioned it yesterday, but I'm out in San Francisco again for work for a couple of days. I've been out a lot lately (I went back to back weeks in June!) and I love getting to explore the city, except every time I'm there there's a freaking high of 60 degrees!! I honestly am so confused every time to be dressing for 60 degree weather in the middle of the summer - I show up in my full fall gear, and the San Francisco crowd somehow manages to still dress summer-y. This time I spent about 10 minutes staring at my closet before I just gave up and packed a bunch of my new #nsale purchases - I was most excited to break out this tote but also wore this cashmere poncho on the plane. Because comfy is my personal style ;)

White Peplum Tee

Top - J. Crew Factory / Shorts - Old Navy / Bag (similar here) - Gap / Sunglasses - c/o Sunglass Warehouse / Earrings - BaubleBar / Sandals - TKEES

In case you haven't caught on quite yet, there are few things I like more for summer than a little blue and white mixed together. It's pretty, it's crisp, and it just screams warm weather. Or Grecian island vacation. One of the two.

What I love most about summer is that it makes Jeff and I more spontaneous. We're both homebodies and perfectly content to spend a whole day inside, and when it's cold out that's usually what ends up happening. But in the summer? We may be laying on the couch one minute, and then heading out to grab a sausage and a beer on the roof at Gene's the next. Which, yes, was exactly what was happening when we snapped these pics.

Usually when we go to Gene's we end up dying of heat stroke and hiding in the shade, but on this particular trip we got perfect summer weather so we actually got to enjoy the sunshine (after I slathered myself in SPF 70, of course). I snagged a cheesey Italian sausage because I'm a child and have to get anything on the menu that mentions the word "cheese" and we grabbed a pitcher of beer to really get our afternoon started haha ;)

I grabbed this tee on sale a while ago but this was actually the first time I wore it out of the house - it turns out it needs exactly the right Chicago weather (i.e. no wind, no rain) to work. With any bit of wind it was basically blowing up and off of my body, which is not a show I like to give, and with rain it turns completely see-through. It is a little on the sheer side, but with a nude bra and a sunny weather forecast you should be good to go!

White and Blue in Charleston

Blouse (similar) - Impeccable Pig / Shorts - J. Crew Factory / Bag - Clare V / Earrings - BaubleBar / Sandals (similar here and here) - Sole Society

Here's hoping you aren't sick of Charleston pictures yet, because I have this last set of photos for you!! As I've said a couple of times, I fell in love with the boutique chain Impeccable Pig while I was down in Charleston, and I actually snagged this blouse from there the day before! The sales girl actually went and pulled it from the back (it was so new it hadn't been steamed yet!) because she thought it would work on me, and man was she right! It's the perfect easy-breezy vacation top because it's a nice, light fabric that works in the heat or when it's cooler, and works with shorts here, but would also be great over a swimsuit or dressed up for dinner.

I was waiting to post this look because I still haven't been able to find this top online - not sure if it's still too new, or if it just won't be on their website. But, I did find a few similar tops that I've linked below:

I really can't wait to go back to Charleston, I don't know if I've expressed that from all of the blog posts and Instagram posts hahaha. It just is such a cute little town, and I love that there are pretty vignettes down every alleyway and hidden path. It just seems like there's so much to explore that you would never see everything!

This particular path reminded me a lot of Positano, Italy. Obviously we aren't on a crazy hill here or climbing up and down fourteen flights of stairs. For me, the resemblance is because we wandered down this little path that we could have walked right past without a second glance, but there are actually business and home entrances on every side. It's also fun to imagine what life was like in this particular spot three hundred or even four hundred years ago! We just don't have that sort of history here in Chicago. Or, like, sun in February. Why do I live in Chicago again?!

Those Summer Nights

Sweater (similar) and Shorts (similar) - J.Crew Factory / Sandals - Sole Society / Bag (similar) - Kate Spade / Watch - Wristology

One of my favorite parts of summer are those cool summer nights, when the sun goes down and the fireflies come out. I love the heat in the summer, but I also love when there's a slight chill so I can throw on a sweater with my shorts, like this fun crab sweater from J.Crew Factory. Sadly I waited so long to actually show it on the blog that it's no longer available, but don't worry, I linked a fun embroidered pineapple sweater instead. I know I've complained before about J.Crew Factory just releasing last season's J.Crew pieces, but in this case it worked out for me - I got basically the same sweater I found in J.Crew last year but for half the price. Win win win.

Barely Colors

Tee - Halogen / Shorts (similar in white and denim) - JCrew Factory / Sandals - Sole Society / Bag (similar color or shape) - Kate Spade / Necklace - BaubleBar

Something about summer always makes me want to dump colors all together. Pairing the lightest of gray with the lightest of green and a whole lot of white? Done.

I know in my head that summer isn't over yet. I'm a little crazy about certain things, and one of them is the dates that seasons start - the first day of fall isn't until September 23rd! (another thing I'm crazy is the exact boundaries of Chicago neighborhoods - "this sign says Lincoln Square but that doesn't start for three more blocks") But despite our respite from weddings, Jeff and I are still crazy busy for the next few weekends, and I know that as soon as September 1st hits people are going to be all about fall clothes, so it feels like it'll be over before I know it. I've been trying to get my summer whites in as much as possible while I still can - yes, you can wear white all year round, but not quite the way I'm doing here.

What are you trying to squeeze in while it's still summer?
