Little Chambray Dress

Dress - J. Crew Factory / Bag (also available here or in black, or a budget-friendly option) - Clare V / Sandals (similar here and here, I also love these statement sandals) - Sole Society / Earrings (also available here) - BaubleBar / Sunglasses - Loft

Sometimes you go on vacation, and you go wine tasting, and then when you're getting ready to leave you remember you meant to take photos and now you have to take slightly tipsy photos in direct sunlight, without vineyards in the background.

Not that I'm saying that's what happened here.

But you guys, I was such a hater on the whole Michigan wine thing. I mocked it, kind of to a lot of people. I'm just not a sweet wine person, and I really thought that was what all Michigan wine was. So you can say that I was less than excited to  go wine tasting over the weekend. Well that's not really the right way to put it. I mean, I'm always excited to drink wine. I just didn't view Michigan wine tasting as one of my must-do activities.

Okay, okay, okay, turns out I was wrong. It turns out Michigan makes some great wines! We went to Dablon Winery one afternoon and managed to squeeze in next to a giant bachelorette party at the bar to try a few. They actually had a huge selection (not sure how they manage that?) so you got to pick which wines you wanted to try, and I actually liked everything except, oddly enough, their rosé!

After tasting at the bar we decided we wanted to hang out on their beautiful patio for a while so we grabbed a bunch of cheeses and meats and crackers along with a couple of bottles of wine. I really am sad we couldn't get photos in front of the vineyards (the light was just coming from the wrong angle) because it really was so beautiful. On the drive home from the weekend, we were all talking about our favorite parts of the trip, and we all agreed that afternoon out on the patio was the best.

Chambray for Spring

Top (sadly sold out, but I also love this one and this one!) - Madewell / Jeans (I also have and love this distressed pair) - Gap / Necklace - BP / Flats (a few sizes are back in stock in blush!) - Banana Republic / Bag (similar) - Coach

Helloooooooo from New York City!! I haven't been here since I was a freshman in high school on a school trip, so I'm definitely excited to be back. I'm here for work and won't really have time for exploring, but I am hoping to venture a little further than Times Square this time ;)

That first trip to NYC was just supposed to be a fun trip with our music department - we planned a few performances but we were mainly going for a fun thing to do on spring break. There was a big meeting about the trip and everyone put down deposits on September 10, 2001. In the next couple of weeks, the trip almost got cancelled, but ultimately the teachers in charge decided we would still go and we would make the trip about giving back. We played at firehouses for first responders and had a song commissioned to honor victims, and instead of just selling candy bars to pay for our plane tickets we hosted a couple of big fundraisers to raise money to donate. The trip ended up being so much more than I expected it to be, and is definitely something I'll remember forever.

Not to abruptly change topics, but hellooooo, how cute is this top? I almost sent it back because I wasn't 100% about the shape, but I am so glad I kept it. With the fun sleeves and the bow back, it has been my go-to over the past couple of weeks. Paired with white jeans and this pretty necklace my sister gave me for my birthday (thanks girl!), it's definitely perfect for this (slightly chilly) transition into spring. But thanks to the breezy shape I definitely see it working really well for summer with white shorts and some fun statement earrings!

Tie Waist Dress

Dress - Gap / Flats - Banana Republic / Bag (similar) - Kate Spade / Earrings - BaubleBar / Necklace - Stella & Dot

I know I should be worried about the weather we've been having because, you know, the Earth is going to melt, but I can't help but enjoy it. Today it's supposed to get up to 75, so hellooooo, spring dresses!! I freaking love this one from the Gap. The tie waist is super flattering, and I love the fabric - it's so soft!

For summer I'm definitely going to pair this dress with bright, fun accessories, but for spring I love it with a whole lot of blush. These are some of my current favorite accessories - the earrings make a statement without being too heavy, and the flats are so cute and comfortable too. Which is a lot for me to say, because almost every pair of shoes makes my feet hurt. I actually need to go give them a deep clean, because I love them so much that I wore them to run after my niece on Easter and got them super muddy. And then I threw her in the air and got mud all over the rest of me. It was an exciting outfit day ;)

More Tassels Please!

Shirt (similar) - LOFT / Denim (similar) - Madewell / Bag (similar) - Coach Factory / Sandals - Sole Society / Belt - Old Navy / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Watch - Wristology

I sent a picture of these sandals to my sister to see if she thought they were cute (I was guessing they would definitely fall into the hate category for her ;) and she wrote back "What's up with all of the tassels?!"

I'm not always super into trends, but tassels have me falling hard. They just up the cuteness factor on anything (including my new tassel slippers from Target), plus they add some fun detail to an otherwise plain look. Right now there are tassels on my shoes, on my pillows, on my placemats, on my jewelry, on my purses... let's just say I hope it's a trend that sticks around for a while!

Are you into tassels this spring too, or is there another trend that's pulling on your heartstrings?

Why I'm Not Apologizing for my Pale Legs

Dress and Bag (similar shape / similar color)- Gap / Chambray (similar) - LOFT / Sneakers (similar) - Reebok / Necklace (similar) - Girly / Watch - Wristology

There's something that drives me crazy every spring in the blogosphere and in real life, and that's girls complaining or even apologizing for how pale they are. Why would that be something to apologize for? Not to get on a high horse about skin color, but there's something so wrong and backward about women feeling they have to apologize for their skin color. If you're pale, then your legs are the color they're supposed to be, and that's beautiful. No ladies, we don't need to get spray tans (or real tans - but seriously, please don't get a real tan) to be beautiful. Your skin is gorgeous just the way it is.

Anyway, enough preaching. We had some seriously gorgeous weather this weekend, and my friend and I decided to take advantage of it by going to a Cubs game. I didn't feel like pulling out my Cubs gear (although I did buy a new hat at the stadium after losing mine in an unfortunate boating incident last summer!) so I decided to go sporty instead with this sweatshirt dress. I got a little excited this January and bought a couple of sweatshirt dresses thinking that spring would be coming soon, and was excited to finally break this one out. With a chambray shirt tied around my waist and some sneakers it was perfect for sitting out in the sun (covered in sunscreen of course!) and watching some good old fashioned baseball (errr, or really mostly gossiping and eating all of the junk food ;)

Herringbone + Chambray

Vest - J. Crew Factory / Shirt - LOFT / Denim - Gap / Boots - Bandolino / Bag (similar) - Old Navy / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Earrings - BaubleBar / Bracelet - Michael Kors

Can you believe that the chambray trend is still going strong? I remember writing one of my very first blog posts back in 2012 about how I wanted/needed a chambray shirt. I'm not linking to it because #embarrassing, but you know, you could probably find it if you put a little effort in. I've owned several chambray shirts along the way, but this little number is my favorite. The material is thinner and softer than a lot of chambray shirts out there, making it super comfortable and easy to layer. Here's hoping this trend lasts a long time! Of course, according to my dad, it's always been in style ;)
