Sephora Sale Open to Everyone: What I Bought

Don't mind me, I'm just over here casually spending all of my money on skincare!

I strategize my beauty shopping around Sephora's sales every year, and buy multiples of my favorites while they're on sale. And then I try not to shop again until the next sale comes around!

The spring savings event gets you 20% off for Rouge members, 15% off for VIB, and 10% off for all beauty insiders (simply sign up through their site to become one). It's running through 4/27 for all beauty insiders, 4/29 for VIB, and 5/1 for Rouge. Some of their more popular items do tend to sell out, so if there's something you want don't wait too long!

My favorites have changed a little since my last Sephora sale post, so I thought I'd share what I bought this time around:

IT Cosmetics Lash Blowout Mascara: My current favorite mascara, it gives me amazing volume and length!! And it doesn't flake off either. You do have to be a little careful with the brush though, it's slightly angled to make it easier to put on, but that means it comes out of the tube messy. I usually wipe the excess before I put it on so it doesn't get clumpy.

Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Retinol Sleeping Face Mask and Eye Mask: This was my crazy purchase of the sale. I've been wanting to add retinol back into my skin routine since I stopped breastfeeding last month. (Also, don't forget to ask me about how stopping breastfeeding at the beginning of a pandemic is a bad idea.) Anyway, I was mostly excited about the concept of an overnight eye mask. I'll let you know how it goes!

Urban Decay Subversion Eyelash Primer: Still my go-to, years later. It makes any mascara you use it with (including drugstore) look a thousand times better.

Fresh Sugar Lip Balm: I forgot how much I love these, I had one sitting on my new work from home desk (read: makeup table) and put it on so much I ran out! I just got the clear one, I've found that the colors tend to smear off of my mouth (and onto my teeth, face, cups, baby...) too easily.

Sephora Collection Blush Brush: I've had the same blush brush for years and years and I finally realized that it doesn't distribute blush very well and I end up with two smallish circles on my face. Not so natural! I've had success with the Sephora collection brushes before, and this one appears to work well for putting blush on the apples of your cheeks (vs angling on your cheekbones) which is what I like.

Kiehl's Cleansing Oil: I've been using this for probably two years now to remove makeup and cleanse my face. I tried a bunch of other oil cleansers too, and this is the only one that gets all of my mascara off without irritating my eyes.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: I first bought this in December when I was having major problems with my lips being extremely dry, cracked, flakey, which has NEVER happened to me before thanks to my chapstick addiction. I can only assume it's because I was focusing too much on baby and not enough on lip moisturization. Anyway, this stuff saved me, and I love it so much I still put it on every night before bed. I use it daily and am only about halfway through my little tub so it lasts.

L'Occitane Hand Cream Minis: The best hand cream ever!! I always order a few of these so I can keep one in every purse.

Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil Serum: I've used this on my hair for like 10 years now. The bottles are expensive but I've been using the same one for probably 2 years now.  I put it on my hair when it's wet from about mid-shaft to the bottom. It makes my hair so shiny and helps combat the damage I do to it.

Kiehl's Dry Body Oil: This was something I picked up when I was having skin issues last spring. I love how soft it makes my skin feel! I usually skip lotion after the shower now and put this on instead.

What I'm Shopping - Sephora Spring Bonus Sale

That's right, it's that time of year! The Sephora Spring Bonus Sale starts TODAY for Rouge members with 20% off your order!! Yes, I'm one of those people who spends an insane amount of money at Sephora and therefore have achieved Rouge status. That being said, I basically only shop there when they're having a sale, because why not get your products for 20% off??

Now that Mia is here, I've definitely pared down my makeup routine. We've got it down to concealer, powder, eyelash primer and mascara most days. And (GASP) the mascara is drugstore. It turns out, (almost) any mascara looks great when you put an awesome primer underneath! I made the switch mainly because the drugstore mascara I bought for my hospital bag is a heck of a lot easier to get off at night than my usual everyday mascara.

I am looking to amp up my skincare routine now that I'm postpartum though. My acne went crazy during the first and second trimesters, and I basically dropped all of my products besides lotion trying to figure out if something was causing it. I think it probably was just hormonal, but you know, I had to try everything. I had a crazy cystic pimple on my chin basically every day for four months, so now I have some dark spots as a result that I'd like to try to get rid of.  I'm also looking to brighten and refresh my skin as well as try some cleaner products since I'm breastfeeding.

So what's in my shopping cart for the sale?

Skincare

OleHenriksen Power Peel - my holy grail of masks, this is the only product I've used that makes an immediate difference on my pore size and on the brightness of my skin.

L'Occitane Hand Creme Minis - I always have one of these in my purse. I'm completely addicted to hand creme, and I love the small size of these tubes for tossing in even my smallest purses, plus they feel so luxe!

Herbivore Coco Rose Body Polish - I love using this in the shower to exfoliate and moisturize my skin. The scent is so amazing, and it makes me feel like I'm at the spa and not just in my slightly dirty shower.

Drunk Elephant The Littles - I've been wanting to try Drunk Elephant for a while, but was never sure what to try. I love that this set has a little bit of everything so I can see what I really like before investing.

Hair

Living Proof Dry Volume Blast - This is my holy grail product for getting volume when I curl my hair or put it up. I always stock up during a sale!

Makeup

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer  - this is my go-to concealer for covering blemishes and redness, it works well without getting cakey.

Nars Velvet Lip Glide - I have this in "Bound" and it's by far my favorite lip gloss. I was in the store and tried out the "Roseland" color, it's so pretty so I had to add it.

Urban Decay Subversion Eyelash Primer - My everyday eyelash primer to wear under mascara, it adds volume and length.

Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra Longwear Concealer - I use this on my dark under eye circles every day, it covers without creasing.

Want to see what I've bought in the past? Here are some of my other Sephora sale picks: November 2018, April 2018, August 2017, November 2016.

Sephora Holiday Bonus Beauty Insider Sale Top Picks

I'm at the point now where I still buy a ton from Sephora, but try to limit my shopping only during sale times. I mean, if you can get your favorites for 20% off, why not?! I came back from my weekend away at a friend's wedding to discover that there was a sale going on (currently only for Rouge level), and I placed an order right away!

The remaining sale dates are:
  • 11/2 – 11/5: Rouge Bonus Weekend
  • 11/9 – 11/12: VIB Member Access
  • 11/16 – 11/19: Beauty Insider Member Access
If you aren't currently a member at Sephora, just sign up here and you'll get access during the Beauty Insider dates.

I really can't believe this is a holiday sale already, but when you look at the sale dates I guess it makes sense! I think the point is to order some of the new holiday sets that came out, but I scoured through all of the pages of holiday sets and only saw one worth purchasing - the Urban Decay Setting Spray Duo which basically gets you two for the price of one. Besides that, I just reordered some of my favorites! Here are my top picks from the sale:

MAKEUP:

Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara - this has been my favorite for years now - it's great for lengthening and thickening! They still have this adorable glitter anniversary packaging in stock, how cute!

Urban Decay Lash Subversion - a lash primer that helps you get even more length and volume from your mascara. I use this under my mascara every day and love that it gives more staying power and prevents flaking.

Laura Mercier Longwear Concealer - the last time I went in for a makeover at Sephora they used this on me, and I love it! It doesn't crease and gives me really heavy coverage without looking like it's really heavy coverage, if that's even possible ;) I use color 1N.

Urban Decay All Nighter Spray - I originally purchased this three years ago but only used it sporadically since I didn't typically wear foundation. But now that I'm wearing foundation on the daily, I've been using this every day to make sure my makeup stays in place all day - it definitely works! The makeup artist at the wedding this weekend even used it on all of us. If you'll be using this frequently, there's a holiday two pack that'll get you two sprays for the price of one, which is what I ended up purchasing!

Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector - I've been using this for about six months now and love the additional bit of brightness it adds to my under eye. I have a feeling once the baby comes and I'm pressed for time, I'll just be using this on its own as a quick fix.

Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder - another undereye product - it's a powder that adds additional brightness also. I bake this under my eyes to ensure my concealer stays put all day.

Bare Minerals Original Foundation - I started using this on the daily after pregnancy hormones started making me breakout like a teenager! It somehow almost covers all of the redness on its own without the help of concealer. I also love that it's a powder foundation, which helps me feel like I'm not wearing foundation at all. I would just recommend not going too heavy when applying or it can start to look cake-y. This definitely made its way into my shopping cart for a repurchase - I use the shade Fairly Medium.

HAIR:

T3 Whirl Trio - I bought this during a previous sale and it has totally changed my hair curling game. I definitely notice that my hair curls faster and that the curls last longer. I've even woken up the next day with my curls still intact! I love the interchangeable barrels too, I use the big barrel for when I want more casual waves or when my hair is longer, and the smaller barrel for more defined curls. The interchangeable barrels also means this is great for traveling since you can take it apart. It's definitely a splurge, but the sale price helps!

T3 Hair Dryer - over the summer my old hair dryer started sparking at me (a hair fire is definitely not how I want to start the day!) so I ended up buying this during the last Sephora sale. I have to admit, I partially bought it because it matched the trio and the travel hair dryer I already own, but I'm so glad I did! It dries my hair amazingly fast, and I love that the buttons are on the back so I don't accidentally hit them while I'm drying my hair. The dryer also has a cool button that actually blows out cool air, which if you've tried a lot of driers you know is not always the case!

Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast - I use this every time I curl my hair and love it - it's definitely a game changer! My curls used to start out full of volume but fall by the end of the day. With this spray, they stay big and full all day long! I occasionally use this on straight hair too, but don't notice it makes as big a difference then.

HOME:

Nest Pumpkin Spice Candle - the perfect fall scent! I ordered one during the last sale and it's nearly gone, so I added another to my order to get me through Thanksgiving.

Nest Birchwood Pine Candle - and this is my favorite holiday scent - just like a fresh Christmas tree! I order the giant size during this sale every year and it usually lasts me through the month of December.

SKINCARE:

L'Occitane Hand Creme Mini - I always have one of these in my purse, I'm literally addicted to hand lotion and love this size because it fits in even my smallest handbags. These hand cremes feel so luxurious and keep my hands soft and hydrated. The cherry blossom scent is my favorite!

OLEHENRIKSEN Power Peel Transforming Facial System - I've been noticing as I get older that the pores on my face are getting bigger, and this mask makes the immediately look better, and the effect lasts for days! I also love the pods and three step system - it's weirdly fun to put on. I just ran out trying to prep my skin for this wedding, so this definitely made it into my cart!

Herbivore Coco Rose Body Scrub - I use this in the shower on the weekends and it feels so luxurious and makes my skin feel amazing. I usually just put it on my arms and legs, but now I've been using it on my belly also for a little extra moisture as it grows to try to prevent stretch marks.

Origins Out of Trouble Mask - I initially bought this years ago and actually just managed to finish my first bottle! I use this just on my chin which is my trouble spot (and makes for a really good look - nothing like a Santa goatee!) and helps prevent and heal acne.

My Extended Makeup Routine and Sephora Spring Bonus Sale!

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Okay, maybe not, but it is time for Sephora's spring sale!! The sale is open to all Beauty Insiders (join for free here) and you can get 10-15% off depending on your Sephora status. Cue the squeals!! I always stock during Sephora's sales because makeup so rarely goes on sale, so it's a great time to repurchase some of my favorites as well as try new products.

The sale starts tomorrow and runs through Monday for VIB Rouge members, and then starts up again next weekend (the 20th through the 23rd) for VIB and Beauty Insiders, with VIB Rouge and VIB receiving 15% off and Beauty Insiders receiving 10% off.

Here are a few of the products I've got in my shopping cart:

Nars Lip Gloss in Super "O" - I tried this on in stores, and it's the prettiest shimmery peach color! I love the Nars Velvet Lip Glide in Bound, which I wear on the daily.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion - I got a free sample of this primer, and you guys, it works. It's like glue on your eyelids - no worries about eye shadow moving around or creasing!

bareMinerals Original Foundation - I've always heard amazing things about bareMinerals but have never tried it. I'm thinking I'm going to start wearing foundation (really, I don't even own any!) because I'm starting to not be happy with my pores, but I'm not really into liquids. Plus this was one of the four that Sephora's skin match test would be a perfect match on me. So I'm going to give this a try! My color is (hopefully) Fairly Medium.

Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins Mineral-Enriched Renewal Cream - this is my favorite night cream. It's so thick and moisturizing, and it smells great too!

Too Faced Better than Sex Mascara - my favorite for years now - it's great for lengthening and thickening!

Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast - this is amazing for amping up my hair when I curl it - see my full hair routine here.

St. Tropez Express Bronzing Mousse - I loved the in-shower St. Tropez gradual tan lotion last summer, but my legs started having an allergic reaction to it! I'm hoping that this one won't bother my skin because I've heard amazing things about it. You're going to want the mitt too for easy application.

My Makeup Routine

I also filmed a new makeup routine tutorial video for you because I've changed a few pieces of my makeup routine from my last video:
