This weekend...

This weekend I...

... Dressed up to go see Miss Saigon with the boy.  We also went to see Wicked last Wednesday.  It was a musical week.
... Bought my first Christmas present.  This is real, people.
... Visited one of my friends in Madison and tried to relive our college days.
... Ordered a gold iPhone and a Kate Spade case, can't wait til they come!
... Cleaned and cleaned and cleaned, and then did four loads of laundry.  And then cleaned a little more.
... Started watching season four of Downton Abbey - it's on in England, which means it can be found ;)
... Managed to resist buying several pairs of shoes.
... Stopped through my hometown to have tacos with my sister and her husband.
... Started working on a holiday DIY.
... Decided it was cold enough to wear a hat.  And I never looked back.

Hope you had a good one!

Blue and Red

What with the shopping ban I did last month, I've been trying to do a lot of remixing with the things I already had.  I already wore the skirt here and the top here.

Top - JCrew / Skirt - Prabal Gurung for Target / Flats - Payless

I normally give up on skirts once the weather drops below 50 degrees because I'm too big of a wimp and spend a lot of time outdoors during my commute, but then I found these fleece lined tights by Hue.  My life has changed forever.

My Favorite of the Cookies

So if you're ever flipping through the Betty Crocker cookbook (what, you don't do this?), you might notice some little paragraphs at the end of the recipes that just look like additional notes.  You might think, extra reading, why would I do that?  That would be a major mistake, because those little paragraphs include tidbits on how to make the recipes way better.  Like, for example, the peanut butter cookies.  The regular cookies are good, but add peanut butter chips and twinge the other ingredients, and they get amazing.

And these cookies are amazing, but what really wins me over is that they only use one bowl and take about ten minutes to make.  Win win win.

Peanut Butter Chip Cookies (from Betty Crocker)

1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 large egg
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Additional granulated sugar
1 cup peanut butter chips

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.

In a large bowl, mix sugar, peanut butter, butter, and egg.  Stir in flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.  Stir in peanut butter chips.

Shape dough into balls and roll in granulated sugar.  Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 10 minutes, let cool.  And then tell your significant other/roommate that you made cookies and accept all of the praise.

Fall Colors

I haven't been wearing many graphic tees lately, they are weirdly one of the only things banned by my work's dress code.  I'm pretty sure the list only includes hiking boots, ripped jeans, and graphic tees.  But then Skip and Whistle offered to send me this adorable owl tee and I had to rethink my graphic tee stance.  I mean, I weirdly love owls.  From where I'm sitting right now I can see at least two owls.  I may have a problem.

Tee - c/o Skip & Whistle / Jeans (old, similar) and Flats - Target / Jacket - F21 (similar) / Necklaces - F21 (similar) and JCrew Factory

P.S. you guys, fall is almost over.  Just about all of the leaves are off the trees on my street.  And we've been talking holiday plans and making Christmas lists.  I saw a snow flurry last week.  Winter is coming, and not in a Game of Thrones way.

This weekend...

This weekend I...

- Went to Kohl's to return one thing and bought three new things instead.  Guess the shopping ban is over.  Whoops.
- Had a movie night with the boy and finally saw This is the End and The Heat, too funny.
- Baked for the first time in months, I don't know what I've been doing!
- Had a yummy brunch with some friends, which oddly included candy corn.
- After being sick all of last week, finally went to my personal trainer again, and then almost passed out.
- Went to a funny band reunion / Halloween party where each band dressed up as a band from the past and played their covers.  Also, one of my friends jumped on stage and busted out some '90s rap.
- Tried to go to dinner at our favorite place in my old neighborhood only to discover they were having a private party, so instead we looked in the window and Charlie Brown walked away.  And then had lots of chinese food instead.  It all worked out.

Hope you had a good one!

How my fiance tricked me into buying my own engagement present... before we were engaged.

Here's a little story for your Friday.

So about a week before we got engaged, I was looking for a wedding present for my cousin.  I remembered seeing these adorable Mr. & Mrs. glasses from Furbish Studio.

Jeff pointed out that a lot of our friends were getting married/engaged, so maybe we should buy more than one set to give out as presents.  I was unsure that we would actually give out more than one, but he was pretty insistent, so I went ahead and placed the order.

Turns out Jeff didn't want that extra set to give as a present, he wanted them for us.  You know, so he could drink whiskey out of a fancy mustache glass.  By the time the glasses came, there was a ring on my finger.  Aaaaaaand, self gift.

The end.  Happy Friday!
