This Weekend...

Oh hey there! Haven't written a weekend recap in a while, but we did a lot (and had two babysitters!!) so I thought I'd share. Here we go...

This weekend I...

...went out to a charity event with Jeff and a bunch of his family. It was for March of Dimes, and the event was a culinary cook-off with a lot of the big restaurants downtown, where you got to have little tastings from each one. I actually wasn't that impressed with most of them, but found a new favorite - Sunda! It's right by my office but I've somehow never been - now it's on the list! So fun to have a night out but we definitely paid for it the next morning when Mia woke up at 6am - yikes ;)
...made this amazing white bean tomato soup from my favorite cooking blog. I've been trying to plan ahead on the weekends and make a big meal that will get us leftovers for most of the week, so that we can have more time on weeknights for hanging with Mia. Soup season makes that meal prep a whole lot easier :)
...finally got this coat in the mail, and as I kind of expected it doesn't work on my body type. But now I know that the regular sizes in the Factory coats actually do fit me (I usually need talls). The sleeves could be a pinch longer, but they work. I would say that the coat definitely is much lighter than my J.Crew wool coats. The box this coat came in was approximately one quarter the size as the box of this coat I also ordered to try out. Which I do really like, but once again ordered in way too big of a size because I still assume that my post-pregnancy body is bigger than it is.
...had Jeff's brother and sister come over to babysit for the first time, so we had a little Sunday afternoon date! They aren't in town very much and wanted to see Mia, so we said heck, of course you can come babysit for a few hours. We ended up heading to Oyster Bah, which we hadn't been to since before I found out I was pregnant, since, you know, oysters and pregnant people don't really mix. So. Freaking. Good. I said it the last time we went there too, but it's some of the best seafood I've had away from a coastline. We also did some Lincoln Park wandering which is always fun - I love popping into All She Wrote and the other little boutiques!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...went out for a dinner date at Coda di Volpe - we had tried to go last weekend but couldn't get in so I had it on the brain. I forgot how good (and cute!) that place is. I'm a little ashamed but mostly not to admit that I ordered the veal and it was mouthwatering, lick-the-plate good.
...after NINE YEARS had to try a new hair color (mine was discontinued last year and I just finished out my stockpile) and was totally freaked that I'd ruin my hair. But I ended up pleasantly surprised by how close it came out to what I was using before! I use Feria in C74, which starts out a bright orange-y red but fades to the perfect strawberry blonde.
...continued our quest to see all of the main Oscars films with a matinee of Vice. While I found the whole thing fascinating and the performance by Christian Bale incredible, it was definitely my least favorite of the Best Picture nominees. We followed that up with dinner at Warbler and then went home to watch Black Panther, which means we just have one more movie to watch before the Oscars!
...went out to brunch at Summer House, which is alway so nice to visit in winter since it feels like you're on vacation. And there are no vacations for us in the near future! Since I got pregnant (and never-ending sugar cravings) Jeff and I started ordering pastries to share as breakfast starters, and the warm blueberry muffin we had this weekend really hit the spot!

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...did a much better job of getting out of the house than last weekend!! We decided to continue our quest to see all of the top Oscar films and went to see Green Book. I thought parts of it were a little cliche/predictable, but overall I loved the movie. Out of the Best Picture nominees I've seen, I would put my money on Green Book winning - you heard it here folks! We decided to grab a casual dinner while we were out and stopped in to Luella's Southern Kitchen for some fried chicken - so good but my body was not happy with me afterwards!! This baby likes her vegetables I guess!
...paid a visit to Jeff's baby sister - can't believe that little girl is already five months old!! We are also still very amused by the concept of her being an aunt to our daughter in just a couple of weeks ;)
...thought I was going to fall asleep for the night around 5pm but decided to rally instead and wound up hopping into a couple bars along Southport with Jeff (fed the baby a couple Shirley Temples ;) before grabbing dinner at Corridor. We always look at the menu but end up splitting a pizza and the chopped salad - so good!
...met up with a friend for brunch at Blue Door Farm Stand in Lincoln Park. I've somehow walked past a ton of times but never noticed it before - it's so freaking cute inside! As one of the reviews on Yelp said, it's like Joanna Gaines threw up in there ;) Baby girl appreciated the egg white veggie omelet I fed her, but mommy needed some sweets and stopped by Summer House for a couple cookies before heading home!! Only a few more weeks to eat whatever I want so I'm really going for it.
...baked up some cupcakes for a friend's Super Bowl party. If you know me, you know I'm only into sports for the snacks!! My baking trick is to use a box for the cake itself (swapping out the oil for butter and the water for milk) but then adding homemade frosting. Tricks everyone into thinking the whole thing is made from scratch!

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...didn't get down to a whole lot - assuming that's how it's going to be once the baby comes too?? We cooked some dinners at home, filled up the freezer with food for when the baby comes, made a stop at the neighborhood coffee shop, and generally vegged out. I also decided to treat myself to a mani pedi - I hadn't gotten one since my friend's wedding back in October and my toes were looking rough! Told Jeff I needed them to be prettier so that I could make a good first impression on our daughter ;) We did watch BlacKkKlansman which I thought was really good, a lot better than I expected based off the previews actually. So funny but a powerful story too. We've seen almost all of the big Oscar films this year which is particularly impressive for us.
...went to a Royal Rumble party at our friend's house. If you've been reading for a while, you may remember that Jeff and his friends are really into professional wrestling, which I find endlessly amusing. I refuse to watch normally, but the Royal Rumble is hilarious. There are 30 wrestlers and they each enter the ring one at a time with the goal of being the last one in the ring. But, let's be honest here, I really only went for a little social interaction and party snacks ;)

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...went to another baby shower for our little girl, this one hosted by my mother-in-law! How sweet are the little cookies she got from Cookie Camelot?! The shower was great, nice and chill with lots of snacks and sips and conversation but nothing in the way of games - just the way I like them! I can't believe baby girl is just five weeks away now - so crazy! We spent the rest of the weekend getting things in order and pretending that we definitely know how to fold up the stroller.
...met a bunch of friends out for bowling at Burnt City - well, at least hanging out at Burnt City haha. You know I wasn't getting anywhere close to the lanes, what with being 8 months pregnant and my pregnancy-related carpal tunnel ;) But, the bartender didn't laugh when I ordered a Shirley Temple at a brewery, so I was a happy lady!
...did a lot of eating at dive bars - the baby really wanted french fries and wings! Enjoying these last few weeks of eating whatever while I can ;)
...spent a lot of time cuddled up on the couch hiding from the snowstorm and then the below zero windchills. I ended up watching the Fyre Festival documentary on Netflix which I thought was fascinating and watched the first episode of Yummy Mummy's which is so bad but also so good hahaha - perfect if you're a Bravo fan!

I hope you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...went on a little date night to XOchimilco, a newish Mexican spot, and we were seriously blown away. It's a really casual cozy little spot but the food was so good. Jeff went for carne asada and I got garlic shimp so we could trade and do a little surf and turf - my mouth is watering just thinking about it! And I was very jealous of the BYOB margarita option - just a few more weeks for me until it's tequila time again! (In case you can't tell, I'm not feeling quite as apathetic to alcohol these days ;)
...decided to go for a walk in the snowstorm on Saturday to enjoy how pretty it was (and to renew my library card, which appears to have not worked since I can't sign in online!) and came back looking a hot mess - completely soaked with crazy hair and makeup all down my face!! And I decided to wear my real deal snow boots which are heavy and slowed me waaaay down haha, I was basically crawling down the street by the time I got home. Of course when you're on a cold walk for that long and you're pregnant and always craving sugar, you tend to make a few stops. I ended up with a chai latte, macaroons, chocolate turtles, and a blondie ;)
...Went with Jeff's family to a Blackhawks / Golden Knights game (hockey, in case you aren't into sports ;) on Saturday - his family supports the Knights which was a little confusing to this Chicago girl. Jeff kept thanking me for going, but we had seats in a box which meant access to that dessert cart, so you know I was a happy girl!
...got our car seat installed!! And really, Jeff got our car seat installed ;) We are going with this car seat which is supposed to be really easy to install, so hopefully we got it right! My dad promptly made fun of us for being six weeks early, but hey, we don't know when baby girl is going to show up!!

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...went out for a casual date night with Jeff to Glenn's Diner for a little seafood. They seriously do the best fish - the pretzel crusted walleye is my favorite!!
...got a ton done around the house including getting our Christmas decorations down and getting the baby's room set up, and dropped off a bunch of boxes at Salvation Army. I'm in full-on nesting mode over here!! I also had this beautiful mirror delivered for the nursery but it was broken, so I had to take it back to the store and reorder. Fingers crossed the new one shows up fine!!
...went out to brunch with Jeff's parents to Fork in Lincoln Square (mostly so they could come over after and see the nursery), and you guys, I forgot just how good their brunch / lunch menu is!! Those chicken and waffles are to die for.
...drove out to the burbs for a little returning (ahem: and shopping) at Old Orchard and found so many good things at Nordstrom! I have a little try on session coming at you later this week!

Here's hoping you had a good one! Anyone else a Bachelor fan and excited for the season premier tonight? I really didn't want them to pick Colton (I'm scared the focus will be completely on the virginity thing!) but still can't wait for the madness to begin :)

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...went to grab an early dinner after work on Friday with Jeff at Baita, the winter restaurant in Eataly. Eataly has been open in Chicago now for years but this was somehow the first time we've actually managed to go together. You guys, that place is crazy pants on a Friday night! Very glad we made 5pm reservations hahaha. The restaurant is Italian Alps themed, so we obviously had to have some melted cheese, but the best thing we tried was definitely the steak skewers!!
...got this wubby fleece vest in the mail, and it is so freaking cozy!! I ended up ordering a large and it was still a little big even with my baby belly, so I would definitely recommend sizing down. I think I'll have some pictures of it coming to the blog this week. I ended up wearing it on Saturday and got a ton of compliments!
...had a girl's brunch at Willow Room, which is such a cute little spot in Lincoln Park! I may have contemplated stealing their velvet barstools ;) There was lots of laughing and mimosas all around, but mine were virgin of course. I've still been staying away from the booze this pregnancy, but a glass of champagne (or really some red wine!) is starting to sound better and better.
...babysat Jeff's baby sister again, she's already getting so big (will be four months next week)! She's also getting smart, girlfriend has some serious FOMO and literally cried as soon as we brought her through the doorway of her room for bedtime - she wanted to stay up and hang out all night!
...drove out to the suburbs to have a Christmas brunch with Jeff's family at Medinah Country Club. Double brunch weekend! They had a huge buffet set up and you had better believe this pregnant lady filled up multiple plates, including some amazing chocolate chip banana pancakes.
...tricked Jeff into going to Target with me by saying we needed to buy gifts for my family's gift exchange, and then dragged him though every aisle while he frantically checked Bears game updates on his phone hahaha. I discovered the tiny Christmas trees I want to put all over our house (seen here) were back in stock and basically bought a mini forest ;) Oh, and I didn't actually manage to find a gift exchange gift. Sorry Jeff!

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...went to see Yippie Ki-Yay Merry Christmas, a musical comedy show one of our friends wrote a few years ago that's getting bigger every year! This is actually the first time I've seen it (most of our friends go every year) and it was hilarious, I almost died during a song about the FBI and America. Very glad I watched Die Hard ahead of time though since it's a parody!
...had a bunch of friends over for a white elephant party and ended up with a coozie that's connected to a remote control so you can find where you set down your drink at a party, lollllllllllll. That's a white elephant for you! It was really fun to have everyone over and see a few of the kiddos that came, including our friend's brand new baby girl!! My hormones must be working because I am so baby crazy right now haha, she was just the sweetest.
...went to my first baby shower for me!! My sister and mom threw it and it was so cute, the theme was "Baby It's Cold Outside" and there was a fun little hot chocolate bar set up, and of course the donut wall we have to have at every party now (like my sister's sprinkle and my SIL's baby shower). Now that we have a ton of new baby gear (thanks so much everyone!!) this whole baby thing is feeling a lot more real - only two and a half months out now!!!

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...had a little dinner date at Caro Mio - yay for giant servings of pasta! Remember how I said I hadn't wanted alcohol at all during my pregnancy? Well it turns out now I'm craving a big old glass of red wine, Jeff's looked so good during dinner! I sadly stuck with my Pellegrino though. There's only a few more months, I can make it!!
...went out to Target not once but twice looking for Christmas decorations!! And really, I hadn't actually been since before Thanksgiving, so I was long overdue for a Target binge ;) You can see some of what I came home with here. We also made our first Trader Joe's run in a few months and came home with basically everything in the freezer section (breaded cheese balls and cauliflower onion dip, yes please!) hahaha. Sometimes I go and nothing catches my eye, but this was not one of those trips.
...drove up to the burbs for a movie date with Jeff and my sister to see Crimes of Grindelwald. We're all Harry Potter nerds, so you know, it was basically required. Now while we still enjoyed the movie, we went out afterwards and spent the whole time talking about things we didn't like. It was a little rough and I think they tried to do a little too much in too little time. Anyone else see it?
...baked a batch of my favorite Christmas cookies! I've made these a bunch of times, and when I mixed up the dough this time it just didn't look right, so I figured they'd turn out bad. Nope, turns out they're the best I've ever made them, and the closest in taste to the ones my grandma makes! So now the question is, did I do something wrong to the recipe this time, or have I done something wrong every other time I've made them??

It was a little hard writing such an upbeat post, as we've gotten bad news about several of our friends and family members over the past few days. Sending positive thoughts their way and hoping all of you are well out there!

This Weekend...

Whew, and we're back after a nice long weekend! I told Jeff that waking up on Saturday was so nice because it felt like we'd just had a weekend, and then there were still a full two days left!! Besides the requisite turkey eating, here's what we got down to.

This weekend I...

...met up with a bunch of friends for pizza at Pizzeria Serio and ordered way too much haha, but it was all really good - I loved the pesto margherita! Since Jeff and I were the only ones not hitting the bars afterwards (you know, because of baby) we took all of the leftovers home and feasted for days ;)
...went downtown with my extended family for our extended "Christmas Walk" which is really just a long lunch with lots of booze at Rock Bottom Brewery. I thought maybe Jeff and I wouldn't stay so long this year, you know, because of my lack of alcohol consumption, but no, we were still there for four hours!
...did an excellent job of shopping for Christmas gifts during all of the sales and got just a few pregnancy essentials for me - you know, instead of the usual buying tons of stuff for myself! I also wandered down to Lincoln Park for Small Business Saturday to pick up a few things in person (and of course stopped at Sweet Mandy B's for a cupcake too!). My favorite places to pick up little gifts in Lincoln Park are All She Wrote and Art Effect - both have such cute stuff! Jeff and I are actually almost done with Christmas shopping now which is amazing since Christmas is still a month off!
...saw we were supposed to get a big winter storm on Sunday, and planned to stay in all day to decorate for Christmas with hot cocoa and Christmas music and a movie. I also got all of the stuff for chili and made a huge pot. Not a bad way to spend the day!

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...kicked things off by babysitting Jeff's baby sister Isabella on Friday night. Jeff had never babysat for an infant before and it was so cute watching him figure it out. Of course he literally spent two hours staring at the baby monitor to make sure she was breathing - it's going to be a little tough for him when we have a kid haha! Thinking about getting one of those overly expensive socks that monitor the baby's vitals to give him some peace of mind.
...since we were in the Gold Coast, we ordered in dinner from Nico Osteria, and oooo girl that place is good! Must be fun to have that place be your corner restaurant, in contrast to the dive bar by our house ;)
...got a ton of stuff out of the baby's room and donated, and somehow the room still feels full! We had to make some space though because our crib and dresser are getting delivered today!! I'm working on a post on our nursery design inspo to come soon, so stay tuned!
...went with Jeff to a Bull's game on Saturday night. They lost, but there were snacks and I always enjoy watching Benny the Bull throw popcorn on the opposing fans, so it was a good night for me ;)
...spent a ton of time finishing up freelance projects and doing laundry and starting to think about packing because we're leaving for Hawaii on Thursday!!! It's half a family trip with Jeff's extended family, and half a babymoon for us. You'd think since I'm pregnant I'd be buying tons of new stuff to wear, but I haven't actually bought anything! (Besides a donut pillow and compression socks for the plane!) I've determined I still have swimsuits that fit, and we're trying to pack in just carry-ons so I'm just going to be bringing mostly shorts & tees with cute accessories, and a couple of my roomier dresses.

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...stood up in my friend Tracy's wedding!! The wedding was outside in Northwestern Indiana and was freezing but so beautiful! So really, I spent the weekend laughing with my best friends, getting beautified and having my picture taken, which are a few of my favorite things ;) The wedding was at Wicker Park which has the prettiest little gazebo for weddings plus a gorgeous reception space if you're currently planning a wedding. If you're in the area, we did go to Harvest Room and Cafe Borgia and I would recommend both - I especially loved Harvest Room's breakfast crostinis!!
...spent some time up in my hometown watching my niece and nephew (who recently started smiling and laughing at people who aren't his mom, and he stole my little heart!!) and then going to the rehearsal dinner for my cousin's wedding at Tacos El Norte, one of my favorite restaurants in the area. I was so bummed I had to miss the wedding but it was great to catch all of my family at the rehearsal!
...ordered a few more of my favorite scarves when I noticed they came out with a few more patterns for the season! I also ordered a bunch of stuff from Sephora since they're starting their holiday sale - I'll have a full recap of the sale coming up this week. I also have my October budget post coming up this week so stay tuned!

Here's hoping you had a good one - now go stuff yourself with some Halloween candy!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...ended up canceling our plans to go see First Man in favor of ordering pizza from Coalfire and catching up on our DVR instead. We've been loving The Good Place lately and are now fully caught up, and of course had to watch a few episodes of The Challenge too. Anyone else in their thirties and still watching MTV??
...dragged Jeff out to shop for baby furniture! We ended up going with this crib and this dresser (both in white), which both happened to be on sale this weekend - win!! Now we just have to finish clearing out what will be the baby's room so there will be space for the white glove delivery men to assemble everything :) Normally I weirdly love assembling furniture, but the white glove service actually ended up being about the same price as a regular delivery, and this way poor Jeff doesn't have to carry everything up four flights of stairs.
...drove out to the burbs for a charity event with Jeff's family for Sarah's Inn, which supports domestic abuse survivors. The event was beautiful and it was fun to have the excuse to dress up a little. I was a little concerned about figuring out something to wear since I'm currently rapidly expanding, but then I remembered that my closet is full of shift dresses! I ended up wearing the velvet dress from this post (sold out, but this one is really similar and I love this printed option too) and was comfy and warm all night.

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

Did you see our big announcement yesterday?? We're having a baby girl! You guys, I am so excited, I cried repeatedly the day we found out. Which I think was not so surprising to the ultrasound technician, but slightly more so to other people on the train and my unsuspecting coworkers ;) Instagram has been targeting me hard with baby clothes ads this week, and I've been having so much fun looking at all of the little girl clothes!! I'm also so excited for this little girl to be friends with her aunt Isabella (Jeff's half sister) who was born six weeks ago - how fun will it be for them to grow up together?!

This weekend I...

...had a matching brainwave with Jeff when we both basically simultaneously suggested going to see A Star Is Born. You guys, it is worth the hype. You should have heard the theater when the credits rolled, clearly everyone agreed. Pre-movie we grabbed dinner at Carbon Arc (which is connected to the theater) and while I've never been that impressed before, it really hit the spot this time - turns out the shrimp tacos are great!!
...went on a little shopping spree down Southport Corridor. I rarely shop in stores anymore unless I'm making a return, but obviously had to run out to find some baby girl clothes for our announcement. It was so fun to pop in and out of all the little stores and come home with more candles than we need ;) Of course, I still couldn't actually bring myself to try anything on!
...drove out to South Barrington for lunch at Cooper's Hawk before we went to Goebbert's pumpkin farm for some fall'tivities with my sister's family. The last time we went my niece Mae was around 18 months old and was clearly still too little to really get into it (although she loved the chance to run!) so it was fun to see her really enjoying all of the activities this time around. Why do kids love rolling around in dried corn so much?! Oh and it turns out she may be a maze whisperer, because she led us through the corn maze in record time - we only hit one dead end! Afterwards we drove up to my parents' house for dinner - a little beef stroganoff really hit the spot!

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...was supposed to go to Ella Elli for a little date night with Jeff, but ended up having to cancel for a stay at home and watch movies night instead since he's been sick. It's funny because something ends up happening every time we've tried to go there! Maybe we'll never get to try all of their different kinds of toast haha ;)
...drove out to the burbs for a bachelorette dinner for my friend Tracy at La Voûte in Homewood! It was so fun, and the food was amazing too (I had the Coq au Vin). I ended up ordering these cute wine tumblers as favors (customized of course!) and they were adorable in person. Now in five months I'll have something (semi) subtle for my wine when I walk the baby around the neighborhood ;)
...donated a ton of stuff to make some space for the baby. I swear, I don't know where half of it came from! We literally found a DVD player in one of our closets when we were cleaning them out (the new closets are gorgeous BTW!) and neither of it think it was ours. And since we dropped everything off to donate, we've already started filling up more boxes to donate!
...met Jeff's parents out for brunch at Somerset, which is freaking adorable (even their website!). I swear every little corner is cute! Plus the food is amazing too - I think the winner at the table was the duck hash burrito! And pregnant me had to order a chocolate croissant and a hot chocolate as a starter too haha. We basically rolled out of there ;)

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Flew back after a looooong week in San Francisco! I was out there for a conference that basically my whole work year leads up to, so now I'm in the free and clear this week. It's great to have the weight off my shoulders! While I was there it was crazy and I mostly was in bed by 8 and wide awake at 4am every day, but I did manage to get dinner at Botellon (eh) and Mission Rock Resort (so good and a beautiful view).
...Went to see Avenue Q with Jeff at the Mercury Theater. I've loved this musical since college so I was so excited to finally see it live, and the production was so good!! Seriously, I would really recommend it unless you are super conservative (the people next to us were not happy) as the show is hilarious. What was really amazing though was to be in the second row, as opposed to way up in a balcony like we usually are when we see shows downtown. If you're thinking of going, the tickets are all the same price so just book a week or two out for the good seats! After the show, we went to grab a pizza at Coalfire (so good!!) and ended up meeting up with some friends for drinks. Well, for me it was a Shirley Temple. Just living my best life over here!
...Got a bonus in my paycheck (yaasssss!!) and did all of the online shopping during some weekend sales haha. Whoops. Let's see... these sneakers, this cardigan, this cardigan, this wrap, this sweater, this scarf, this flannel, and these boots.

...Got our house prepped for some new closet buildouts that are happening this week, which basically means our living room is now full of stacks of coats and clothes and wedding china and old Halloween costumes. Someone send help.
...Went to see the Cubs play on Sunday afternoon - they won by a lot but since we are so close to the playoffs we were nervous basically the whole time. It sounds like we're probably going to another game this week, which really just means more hot dogs for me!

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...went out for a casual dinner at O'Shaughessy's - I was craving their steak sandwich, it's the best!! Oh, and in case you were wondering whether or not I'm actually pregnant, I made Jeff stop and get me gelato on the way TO dinner hahaha. The baby demanded it!
...had box seats with a bunch of our friends to the Cubs game on Saturday, which was so fun!! I mean, you know I was mostly in it for the dessert cart (are you sensing a pattern here??) but it was great to see the Cubbies pull out a W too.
...got to visit Jeff's little sister again - she's already so big!! But just the sweetest little thing to hold, we got some good snuggles in. Afterwards we went and grabbed sandwiches from Goddess and Grocer. If you somehow haven't heard, Jeff LOVES a good sandwich and researches the best sandwich places whenever we travel (I suggested he start his own Instagram hahaha, @jeffheartssandwiches ;) and he freaking loved this place and already looked up the closest location to his work.
...did a bit of aggressive online shopping - I'm most excited about these comfy slippers that can actually be worn outside! I also ordered a bunch of maternity stuff to try, plus this blouse was such a great deal I couldn't pass it up, and I also snagged this cardigan I wanted from the Nsale that's actually on a better sale now!

Here's hoping you had a good one!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...had ZERO plans on Friday morning - isn't that the best kind? After lazing around a little on Friday after work, Jeff and I decided to wander over to Caro Mio for a little pasta! We hadn't been since we had my big 30th birthday party there and I had almost forgotten just how good their agnolotti is. Almost.
...finally went for a pedicure to get some fall color on my toes - you know, something that would look better with my favorite fall sandals ;) I was going to hold off on fall a little longer, but then Chicago decided to bring on temperatures in the 60s so I thought I'd go for it. Bye sundresses!
...Convinced Jeff to dress up a little with me for a dinner date on Saturday night (well, after asking me repeatedly what that meant he ended up wearing a button down and jeans, so basically his "regular clothes" haha). We went to Pasteur for a little Vietnamese (we can't get enough since our trip to Asia!) and while the service was incredibly slow the food was amazing - loved the bo luc lac! I wished we had been there on a night with better weather because their patio space out back looked so cute too.
...Met up with my friend Chris who was in town for breakfast at Summer House - if you haven't been it's the cutest place! Chris and I go way back, we actually sat at the same table in kindergarten!! Breakfast was delish, and we capped it off buy buying too many cookies on our way out. I spent the rest of Sunday basically in a sugar coma haha.

You also might have seen on Instagram stories, but I got a new niece this weekend!! My brother Pat and his wife Claire who live in South Korea welcomed their little girl Penelope June early on Friday morning! I've obviously only seen her on my phone so far but she's just darling. It's kind of weird having a new baby so far away that I won't get to meet for a long time - hey Pat and Claire, move back to the states already!

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Went out on a little dinner date with Jeff to Octavio, a new to us spot for Mexican. Jeff got the fajitas and they were incredible. I usually find restaurant fajitas just okay, but these were freaking amazing - definitely going back just for those!! Plus the space was fun and had a giant skylight - perfect for when you want to pretend you're outside but don't actually want to sit in the 90% humidity!
...Did a little bit of holiday weekend shopping, I'm most excited about getting this jacket at 40% off, but I also did end up snagging this pullover that I definitely do not need and this dress to layer with cardigans and scarves when the weather cools down. I think mauve is my current favorite color, it's so pretty for fall! Oh and I also ordered this tortoiseshell phone case (so freaking adorable!!) but it definitely was not on sale haha ;)
...Drove up to my parents' for a big family barbecue. The weather wasn't quite cooperating so we stayed inside (a theme for the weekend) but it was fun to see both of my grandmas and hold my baby nephew Clark (who, by the way, is gigantic! Jeff was joking that he'll be going out for linebacker next week.)
...Had our fantasy football party and draft for the couple's league Jeff and I are in. We always have the winner of the league pick an activity to do (the most amusing year was when Jeff won and selected a group outing to Medieval Times hahaha - the girl selling wine was baffled by how many bottles we bought ;). This year the guys won so we ended up at Topgolf. I was kind of down on the activity (I literally hadn't been to a driving range since 2009!) but it ended up being a lot of fun, and then very amusing to draft in the Topgolf conference room afterwards hahaha.
...Went to see Jeff's baby sister Isabella again, she's such a little sweetheart!!

Here's hoping you had a good one!
