Plaid & Herringbone

Shirt and Vest - J.Crew Factory / Jeans (similar) - Madewell / Bag - Sole Society / Booties - Toms / Necklace - Stella & Dot

Jeff's college friends think that my blogging career, and especially Jeff's typical role as photographer, is hilarious. They talk about it all the time, follow me on social media, send my photos to each other, you know, the usual. Since we got engaged, they also like to refer to Jeff as "Jeff does the Internets" or "Mr. does the Internets" ;) One of his friends stayed with us over the weekend so that he could run the Chicago marathon, and was very interested in trying his hand at doing some internets with us. So big ups to Mike for taking these photos!!

So anyway, this vest from J.Crew Factory. Do you own it? I feel like at this point it's in just about everyone's closet. It has been around for several years now but still manages to feel fresh every fall. If you don't have one yet, then you're in luck because they're way marked down this year! I spent $65 on it last fall during a big sale, but this year it's been marked down even lower. Just a note - I always size way down for these vests. I'm typically a large but am wearing a small here. Since I'm curvy on top, a larger vest sits way too far away from my body to be flattering. The small hugs my side and back, making the layers much more streamlined instead of bulky.

Are you all about the vests this season?

This Weekend...

Oh hey there! I'm back from San Francisco after a seriously crazy week. I went out for Dreamforce, which is a conference run by Salesforce that 170,000 people attended this year. People told me it would be nuts but I didn't quite believe them. Well, most days I was out running around starting at six in the morning, and wouldn't get back to my hotel until after midnight. I flew back late Friday and didn't get in until early in the morning on Chicago, so needless to say I was exhausted! Basically the whole weekend was one big nap ;) During my few waking hours, we went to see the Cubs playoff game on Saturday night (they won!!!) and tried to catch up on a few things. I'm still super behind, but I'm hoping I can get back on track this week!

I hope you had a good one!

Go-to Wedding Outfit

Dress (similar) - Ralph Lauren / Bag - Michael Kors / Heels (similar) - Shoe Mint / Bracelet - BaubleBar

I don't know if I mentioned it (except for, like, a billion times) but we had two weddings last week. Work has been crazy lately so they both kind of snuck up on me. When we first started getting invited to a lot of weddings, I put a lot of thought into what I was going to wear, how I would do my hair and makeup, what accessories I would choose, and then would sometimes spend hours getting ready. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm a girly girl so spending hours getting ready is fun for me and I love planning outfits, but I don't always have that kind of time. For the wedding we went to in Chicago last week, it was really nice to be able to throw on my go-to little black dress that I know will look good and works for just about every wedding occasion, heels that I know I can last through a wedding in, and a bag that I know will hold everything I need and be ready to go. No second guessing or last minute "nothing to wear" freakouts to worry about!

I've had this dress in my closet now for over five years now (you may have seen it waaaaay back in the early days of KDTI), and it works for cocktail hours and charity dinners, winter weddings and summer weddings, and everything in between. Do you have a go-to wedding guest outfit? If not, I rounded up a couple of cute, classic options that will last for years to come:

Janet Snakehole and Burt Macklin Couples Costume

Oh god it's October already?! Halloween is right around the corner, and I haven't started thinking costumes at all yet. Which is really weird for me, considering I once spent a whole month drawing tiger stripes in my spare time and I'm pretty sure I planned my Ralphie costume a whole year in advance.

If you're like me and are trying to come up with something, here's an easy couple's costume idea that Jeff and I did last year - Janet Snakehole and Burt Macklin from Parks and Rec. If you have a little black dress and your man has a button down and a tie, then you're already halfway there!

Janet Snakehole - Dress / Necklace / Heels / Cigarette Holder / Hat / Earrings

Burt Macklin - Sunglasses / Jacket / Shirt / Tie / Duck Tape (for FBI letters)

Back in Plaid

Shirt and Sweater - Old Navy / Pants - J. Crew Factory / Flats - Rockfort / Bag - Sole Society / Earrings - BaubleBar / Necklace - Stella & Dot

Who else is so glad it's plaid season again?! I snagged this tunic version from Old Navy a couple of months ago and am excited it's finally cool enough to pull it out. I love any and all button downs, but I especially love tunic ones because they're long enough to wear with leggings (or ponte pants, in this case) - who doesn't want to wear what feels like pajamas all day?!

I mentioned it here, but this oatmeal cardigan has been one of my favorite purchases so far this fall. It's so comfortable, and it seriously goes with everything. I don't know how I made it this far without owning a sweater in this color before - it's the perfect neutral.

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Was in Washington DC for a wedding! Okay, okay, you got me, we never actually made it into DC. The wedding was out in National Harbor, and we basically camped out there all weekend. I wasn't quite sure what to expect because people compared staying in National Harbor to visiting Chicago and staying in Rosemont, but it was actually a lot better than expected. National Harbor is this little development on the Potomac with really pretty views, and there were lots of little shops and restaurants and bars to check out. We stayed at the Gaylord, you may have seen on Snapchat that we had a balcony on our room that went into the atrium of the hotel which I found hilarious at the start but then actually sat out there and ended up really liking it. Oh, and the wedding itself was gorgeous. It was outside at Oxon Hill Manor, which had really pretty gardens, more views of the river, and even some wild turkeys wandering in the distance. Definitely the perfect venue if you're looking for something in the DC area!

So anyway, that's about it! We flew back yesterday afternoon, and this morning I'm hoping on a flight to San Francisco for Dreamforce - fingers crossed I get to hang with Bono ;) I have content lined up for the week though so be sure to still swing by for more fall style and a fun Halloween costume idea, you know, because it's somehow already October!!
