This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Went to my father-in-law's Christmas party down at Flo & Santo's by our old house (and ohhhh my gosh the pork wings!) with a bunch of family and friends. We weirdly ended up hanging out with Alex Brown, a former player for the Bears, for a good chunk of the evening, which gave me ample time to show off my complete lack of football knowledge haha.
...At the next stop in our sports-filled weekend, we somehow ended up with floor seats for the Bulls game on Friday night, which was freaking amazing. You know, until they went into the fourth overtime and my sports-obsessed husband wouldn't let me leave haha. I maybe got a little excited and blew up my Insta, sorry to those of you who don't care to see basketballers in your feed (ahem, me either ;)
...Went to a big family dinner at my grandma's family in the burb's where I got to snuggle up with my favorite little niece. The lighting was terrible (erm, soft and cozy?) or I probably would have posted a thousand pictures of her too.
...Celebrated our six month wedding anniversary! I seriously can't believe it's been six months already. And with that realization came another - I never shared any photos here like I said I would! Look for some posts coming up soon.
...Spent the rest of the weekend cleaning, and cooking, and assembling, and unpacking those random boxes I don't know what to do with, and then cleaning some more. I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed lately, like I can't quite catch up on all of the things that need to be done. And on that note, I've scheduled posts for Tuesday and Wednesday this week but besides that am going quiet until after Christmas. Want to see what I'm up to? Be sure to follow along on Instagram or Snapchat (user name kristinadoes). I hope you have a great holiday if you celebrate, and if not enjoy the long weekend!

What's New Is New

I think that the shopping gods know that I'm all done with my holiday shopping and wasn't planning on buying anything for myself until after Christmas, because over the last week my inbox has been full of emails about new arrivals. Banana Republic, J. Crew, Kate Spade, LOFT... they'll all be the end of me. For your sake (and definitely not mine), I've taken a gander and picked a few of my favorites. This would be a fun outfit if you don't want to dress up but still feel a little festive, or for a casual New Year's Eve.

P.S. I may have already managed to try on that vest and it is NOT for the busty gals, but if you aren't curvy on top go for it - it is so cute & well made.

Here are a few more new items on my wishlist:

Rainy Days

Sweater (similar) - Banana Republic Factory / Denim (similar) - Madewell / Booties - Sperry / Necklace (similar) - BaubleBar / Watch - Wristology / Bag (similar) - Old Navy

I would be upset about all of the rainy days we've been having, except it means I finally get to break out my new Sperry boots! I snagged these waaaaaaay back at the last Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, but they are so warm and cozy I haven't been able to pull them out much until now. I have this problem with winter(ish) boots - usually the super thick rubber ends up tearing the living daylights out of the back of my feet, no matter how long I try breaking them in, and then they get relegated to the back of my closet and are never worn. Not these babies! They are super comfy, with or without thick socks, and I found fit true to size. While these particular booties are sold out at a lot of stores, I found that Macy's still has a lot of sizing and colors (including an adorable plaid!) so you can still snag a pair before winter really hits.

What have you been up to lately? We're still up to our ears in boxes that need to be unpacked - I'm going to blame part of that on our procrastination skills, and part on the fact that we've been crazy busy with holiday stuff lately. Tonight we have another Christmas party to go to, and then tomorrow we're going to try to hit a friend's holiday improv show. Oh and I still haven't managed to wrap a single gift. Is Christmas really only a week away?!

Vest Weather

Sweater (similar) - LOFT / Vest - J. Crew Factory / Denim (similar) - Madewell / Booties (similar) - Target / Bag - Kate Spade / Necklace (similar) - BaubleBar

I'm not sure how it's been in your part of the world, but here in Chicago it's been weirdly warm for the last week or so. Like, don't need a coat warm. Except for when I thought I didn't need a coat over the weekend and then went to an outdoor mall (seriously Chicago, this is Chicago, down with outdoor malls!) and tried to eat a milkshake and absolutely froze. (Okay, maybe the milkshake part was my fault.) Enter, the vest. For me vests don't usually replace outerwear, but with sixty degree temps (is this December?) they've been called up to the majors.

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Went to my work holiday party downtown and did end up whipping out this ensemble again. Bow heels FTW.
...Tried Shake Shack for the first time, and holy crap I see what all of the hype is about. I want 400 more Christmas Cookie Shakes. That being said, I am NEVER trying to eat IN the restaurant instead, because it was so crowded that half the people (ahem) ended up having to take their food outside to perch on some chilly benches. Maybe part of the problem was that we were at a mall during holiday shopping season.
...Watched the last episode of You're the Worst, and seriously, so good. The second season was so different from the first but I loved where they went with it.
...Checked out Ampersand Wine Bar for some sips and snacks with the hubs, and now I want to go back and eat 800 bowls of their cauliflower soup :) Also, we sat on the EXACT stools we just bought for our kitchen, made us feel right at home lolz.
...Got a little more of our furniture shopping out of the way - dresser and rugs CHECK.

I hope you had a good one!

Gift Wrap Ideas

I love putting a pretty present under the tree, don't you? The past couple of years I've gone out the morning after Christmas to buy wrapping paper and other Christmas stuff on sale so I've got a pretty big collection of wrapping paper on hand. If I didn't though, I'd be going crazy on some of these DIY wrapping ideas - aren't they all so gorgeous?! Oh, and check out how I wrapped my gifts a couple of years ago here. I swear I had another post dedicated to DIY present wrapping but for the life of me can't find it #struggs. (edit: FOUND IT!)

What to wear for Christmas Morning

Do you love a good pair of pajamas? I usually go the route of sweatpants and a tee shirt, but wearing actual, cute pajamas always makes such a difference. And for Christmas morning, when you may be hanging out in pjs in front of those you normally do not wear pajamas in front of (ahem, inlaws), you want your pajama game to be on point. Last year I made the mistake of going for a lime green tee from a college barcrawl, and was super embarrassed when I ended up meeting my father-in-law's new girlfriend in them (especially because she had, you know, showered, and was wearing Louboutins). Not this year! Here are some of my favorite pajama picks for Christmas morning.
