March Budget

So I basically hit my $300 budget right on the nose this month. I really thought I was going to go way, way over budget this month, but I ended up ordering a bunch of stuff I didn't like so I'm in the clear. Plus, I had a couple of gift cards from my birthday which definitely helped.

My favorite thing I got this month was this blue scalloped dress from Loft. My theory has always been to buy dresses when I find them, and assume I'll find an event to wear them to, versus shopping when I need something for an event, because inevitably I won't be able to find anything I like. This dress is absolutely perfect, from the cut to the color to the fun scalloped detailing. I can't wait to wear it to one of our ten (!) weddings this year, or maybe to a shower or even my rehearsal dinner.

I also was excited to find another pair of jeans. I wore this pair here, and while they're a straight cut they have the casual feel of a boyfriend jean. I discovered that there was a little wire sticking out of my favorite pair of riding boots that was basically shredding all of my jeans around the knees, so new denim was definitely in order.

I also clearly am on a spring kick - I picked up four dresses and a skirt even though it won't be warm enough to wear them for a couple more months here in Chicago. What can I say, I'm excited for this summer!

So anyway, here's the damage for March:

JCrew Factory Skirt - originally $69.50, on sale $44.50
Old Navy Dress - originally $34.94, on sale $24.38
Loft Jeans - originally $79.50, on sale $40.55, used giftcard $36.20
Loft Dress - originally $89.50, on sale $45.65, used giftcard $0
Forever 21 Maxi Dress - $32.90
Wristology Watch - originally $49, on sale $39, used giftcard $0
Sole Society Booties - $79.95
Sole Society Clutch - $44.95, used giftcard $0
JCrew Factory Sweater - originally $78, on sale $54.50
Forever 21 Dress - $27.90 EDIT - Returned for store credit

Total Spent: $300.33
Total Saved: $285.81

For April I'm probably looking for more dresses for all of my events, as well as a pair of white shorts (my favorites are basically dead) and more jeans.

How did your budget go for March?

  1. That's a smart idea, buying a nice dress when you find it and tucking it away for when you need it. That always happens right? You have something to go to and all of a sudden nothing you come across is cute or appropriate and if it is, it is 100% in the wrong color. That scalloped dress is so cute and a lovely color. Definitely could see it being worn to just about any spring/summer event!

  2. 1O WEDDINGS?! I thought 5 was bad enough. I love love love that maxi dress - if I knew it wouldn't be too short on me, I'd be all about it.

  3. Ha, yes, all of my friends and Jeff's friends decided to get married at the same time. I'm guessing that next year there will be zero! The maxi dress - I haven't actually received it yet, but it says the model is 5'10" and it looks long enough on her, so I'm crossing my fingers that the length will work.

  4. Yes it definitely works for me! I think there's only been one dress that I purchased on the fly that I haven't found an occasion for yet, but it may make an appearance soon.

  5. I love the scalloped dress! My wedding season is definitely less packed than yours (10?!), but still, any excuse to buy pretty dresses

  6. I know I've said this before but your monthly purchase round ups are my favorite posts you do. You scored some really great spring essentials.

  7. Wow all of those cuties and you stuck within a budget, i wish I could be like that lol

  8. I will be seeking out that scalloped dress. The one J.Crew did a few seasons ago was nice and all, but the fit was terrible. I hope the Loft one is better. It's pretty much a perfect summer wedding dress too.

  9. Lovely post! Happy Friday! XO

  10. Love that striped skirt and that white watch. Great pieces!

  11. I want it all!

  12. Love the dresses, especially that striped one :)

  13. So I just got the maxi dress in the mail. I'm 5'9.5" and it could be like, half an inch longer, but I think the length is surprisingly good!

  15. I'm loving all of the dresses! I'm a big fan of dresses in the Spring/Summer

  16. Good job on keeping with the budget and for some people $300 would be Christmas haha I love your picks - the maxi and the watch are my favorite! I have stopped doing the monthly budget posts because sometimes I go way over and other times I don't buy anything at all. It became very annoying haha. Although it's nice to see what other people are buying

  17. I'm with you on the buy dresses when you find them! It is inevitable that you won't find something when you need it (I experienced this when graduation dress shopping and it was miserable). Also, I'm thinking maybe we should get together next time I'm in Chicago!

  18. I really like all the dresses you found - and holy crap - ten weddings this summer? Crazy! We only have one, and we're probably not even going to it, haha. I've just started looking at Loft's website more (and placed my first order there for some shorts - fingers crossed they work out!), and I immediately noticed that scalloped dress. I bet the color will look gorgeous on you!
