Stripes & Plaid

Dress - SheInside / Scarf (similar) and Booties (similar) - Target / Vest (similar save and splurge) - Old Navy / Watch - Wristology / Bag - Old Navy

Stripes and plaid are one of my favorite combinations - they both feel so neutral-y that they pair really easily together. Of course my three month niece did not seem to agree, I held her while wearing this and she kept tugging on my scarf, she's so not into the pattern mixing. My dad was also not so into this look, he kept asking if I was going on a safari. You know, not that I need his fashion approval ;)

I've been wearing these booties basically non-stop lately - they've been in my closet for the past couple of years and basically ignored, and all of the sudden I realized they are my comfiest and most versatile booties. Get ready to see a whole lot of them this fall!

Return of The Vest

Tee - LOFT / Skirt (same cut, similar pattern) - JCrew Factory / Vest (similar) - Old Navy / Booties (similar) - Sole Society / Necklace - Girly / Bracelet - Michael Kors

You guys, something happened. All I want to wear now are fall colors! Bye brights! Bye summer dresses!

I think it's because I took the time to do a major closet cleanout the other night, so now my fall clothes are front and center in my closet. I ended up donating bags and bags of stuff. And when I say "donating," I mean I was about to put all of my stuff into a conveniently located donation box near my house, only to have a homeless guy run up to me and ask if he could have all of it instead. So now I'm really hoping I see him around town in my old scarves and tee shirts.

Something that survived another closet purge? My utility vest! I was a bit obsessed with it when I first got it two years ago, and it hasn't made many blog appearances since then since I thought I may have been overloading you with it. But don't worry, she's back, and just as versatile as ever! Since I'm feeling fall but the weather isn't quite here yet (it's been in the 80's this week!), this is the perfect light layer. The whole utility trend is still amusing to me because the last time it was popular (hmmmm, late nineties or early aughts?) my brother and sister bought matching utility jackets on super clearance from Abercrombie and wore them basically every day for years, which was especially funny because they were so not Abercrombie people. Don't worry sibs, you can pull out your jackets again!

Transitioning White

Dress - Target / Vest - Old Navy / Booties - Sam Edelman / Necklace - Yuni Kelley (similar) / Watch - Kate Spade

It may be after Labor Day, but I'm still in white. While the weather continues to cooperate (at least for today) and it still is technically summer, I'm going to keep on rocking this little white dress.  Paired with my utility vest and booties, it feels perfectly appropriate as a transition outfit to fall.

I wore this earlier this week for a quest over to Wicker Park for trivia night. I think we've finally found a trivia program that I can really get behind, because A) they cater heavily to my intense knowledge of the Home Alone franchise, and B) we've come in second twice. Of course, some of my friends aren't as cool with the whole "not winning" thing, so I said next time we go our team name should be, "Always a bridesmaid."

Are you still in white?  Or have you packed it away until next year?

Jumping the Gun

Tee - Loft (similar) / Vest - Old Navy / Jeans - Gap / Necklace - BaubleBar (similar) / Watch - Kate Spade / Sandals - Target

I'm really trying to jump the gun on this fall thing.  I got excited this week, and tried to go buy candy corn (hint: they aren't selling it yet), started pinning fall and halloween stuff like crazy, and kept trying to dress like it's sixty degrees out instead of eighty.  Case in point: this outfit.  I originally had boots on and was sweating to death.  Note to self: next time, check the calendar!  Fall doesn't officially start until the 23rd.

Floral + Vest

Dress - LC Lauren Conrad (similar) / Vest - Old Navy / Sandals - Target (similar) / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Bracelet - Michael Kors

After showing my utility vest a lot of love this spring (see here and here), I kind of forgot about it.  Whoops, sorry old pal!  While I loved it over my sweaters and with denim, I realized recently that it's the perfect topper for a summer dress.  It can add a nice layering effect without being too hot.

I wore this earlier this week for our couple's league fantasy football draft.  That's right, I'm doing fantasy football again, and I'm still not quite sure how football works.  Last year I learned what a safety is, so maybe this year I'll pick up another new term.  The real goal though is to beat Jeff in our couple matchup again, which I somehow did last year despite being in Morocco and not having any idea how to set my lineup.  Sorry babes!

The Vest, Again

Sweater - Banana Republic (old) / Vest - Old Navy / Jeans - Gap / Boots - Tahari (similar) / Watch - Michael Kors

I told you I had a problem.  Seriously.  This vest is getting around.  If it was a person, she'd be getting a very bad reputation.  I wore this for running a few errands (ahem, trying on many pairs of shorts) last weekend.  Comfy and cute, what more do you need?

Vest & Dots

Shirt - LOFT (old, similar) / Vest - Old Navy / Jeans - Gap / Booties - Target / Necklace - JCrew Factory (similar) / Bracelet and Watch - Michael Kors

I bought this vest from Old Navy a couple of weeks ago and have literally been holding myself back from wearing it everyday.  It feels like outerwear and seems to go with everything in my closet.  I might have a problem.

I was actually hunting for a utility vest for a long time and also bought this one from JCrew Factory.  I ended up returning the Factory one partially because the Old Navy vest was such a steal in comparison, and also because the fit on the Old Navy vest was better - the pockets were a lot less bulky making the look feel more stylish and less like I was actually going fishing.

Although fishing does sound like fun...
