Navy Polka Dots

Romper (similar here and here) - LOFT / Sandals (similar here and here) - Sole Society / Bag - Clare V / Earrings - BaubleBar

Have I shared this romper before? Yes. Is it completely sold out? Yes.

(But before you get mad, check out this super super similar polka dot dress!)

So much of this blogging thing is showing you what's new and now and never ever sharing something that's (gasp) old!) But really, KDTI is about sharing my real outfits in real life, and this is a real outfit I keep repeating!

While I've worn this for date night and while traveling, on this particular occasion I was headed to a Cubs game with the fam! Sometimes I go for tees and baseball hats for baseball, and apparently sometimes I go for pinup girl ;) I love that the Cubbies wear red, white, and blue since it basically matches my summer wardrobe. I've been rocking red finger and toenails for a solid month now, and I'm not mad about it.

This Cubs game in question was really fun - we call it "family day" and Jeff's dad gets a skybox for my family and Jeff's family. My three-year-old niece Mae came and amused everyone by repeatedly handing everything she was holding to the person sitting next to her so she could clap along with the crowd and doing toddler yoga in the middle of the floor, and my brand-new nephew Clark (they claim he wasn't named for the Cubs buuuuuttt...) was wide-eyed and ended up getting passed around the room for baby cuddles. Oh and of course the best part (you know, besides actually seeing the Cubs get a W!) is the dessert cart - my order is always ice cream with cookie dough, oreos and fudge! Woof, I may have just given myself a secondary stomach ache haha.

Anyway, back to the clothes! Wrap dresses like this one have been huge this summer, and can be really flattering but also tricky for a larger chest - if you aren't careful, you can end up showing a lot more skin than you planned on! Luckily there's a really easy fix. Most wrap dresses have a snap or a hook and eye that would never ever work for me, so I really carefully snip them off and resew them on in a place that works on me. It's a five minute fix that makes a world of difference!

Skirt Day

Romper - LOFT / Jacket (similar here and here) - J. Crew Factory / Sandals - Treasure & Bond / Bag (Similar splurge or budget-friendly) - Gap / Earrings (similar here and here) - made by a friend / Necklace - Stella & Dot

And once again, it's time to celebrate the imaginary holiday my friends made up in high school. Skirt day, the first day of the year when everyone pulls out a skirt. For the guys it was a bit misogynistic, but it was better than "Misogynist Thursday," which was, in fact, a real thing that they joked about every week. Sometimes I wonder what going to high school today would be like versus fifteen years ago (oh god, was that when I was in high school?!) - has the #MeToo movement changed anything? Or are the guys still celebrating the first day that girls' legs are on show?

Well today is definitely the first day my legs have come out this year - it's supposed to hit the upper 70's in the city!! Cue the cheers! This has been the winter that would not end, and I for one could use a little warm weather to cheer me up.

The biggest problem with the delay of spring is that I just keep on buying warmer weather pieces and forgetting what I bought a month or two ago. The dress section in my closet is about ready to burst with new arrivals, like this adorable polka dot romper. That's right, it's a romper - there are some secret shorts hidden in there! I appreciate that, especially with a wrap dress, because Chicago really earns that whole "Windy City" nickname.

I've tried on a lot of wrap tops and dresses this year and barely any of them work for a larger chest - they're all too flimsy or way too low cut and inappropriate. This one actually has a snap to keep the top in place but it was positioned all wrong for me, so I veeeeeery carefully snipped it out. Now I just need to sew it back on in a more appropriate spot, and I'll be all set.

So bring it on, skirt day. I'm ready for ya ;)

Romping Again!

Romper (similar) - Topshop / Jacket - J.Crew Factory / Sandals - Target / Bag - Tory Burch / Earrings  (similar) - J.Crew / Sunglasses - Urban Outfitters

This romper has been a favorite for a while now - it's so versatile! I've worn it as a beach coverup, for a casual summer afternoon, out to dinners with Jeff, and even for a bachelorette party! It also travels really well and has been to Italy and Thailand with me! This particular one is old, but there are lots out there with similar concepts - a jersey material makes it super comfy, and the elastic waist (versus a zipper or buttons) makes it really easy to slip on and off when you have to go to the bathroom - especially when you've had a cocktail or two! I used to have a romper that had a couple of buttons on the shoulder I had to undo for a bathroom break, and I would literally get trapped in it! With a stretchy romper though, the only issue you have to worry about is it stretching out a little and showing more cleavage as the night goes on ;)

Are you a romper girl too? I linked up some similar options below!

Romping Around

Romper (similar and under $30!) - Topshop / Sandals - Dolce Vita / Bag (similar) - Coach Factory / Earrings (currently on sale) - Charming Charlie / Bracelet (also on sale!) - BaubleBar

This romper is one of the most weirdly versatile items I own. I've worn it on date night. I've worn it as a beach cover-up. I've worn it to a bachelorette party. I've worn it to work. Okay, so those last two were on the same day (also, I forgot my hair was ever that long!!).

Last week I decided to pull it out again for dinner with Jeff at Monteverde. It was so fun to get to have a little midweek date night -  Jeff works a ton of hours so we don't usually get much hanging out time during the week. It was also fun because it felt more like a date date than being in a long-term relationship usually does. For one thing, I decided to dress up more than necessary. I've said it before, but Chicago is super casual, so usually for date night with the hubs I'm still in jeans. Wearing a low-cut, lacy romper was definitely a fun change. Another way that we made it feel more date-y was we decided to meet at the restaurant. Usually we get ready together at home and then will head out together, which takes away some of the excitement that there was when we were first dating. There's something about heading out by yourself and seeing your date waiting for you at the bar that really gets the butterflies going ;) Adding that level of excitement back into date night made the night that much more fun.

Oh, also, if you haven't been to Monteverde you probably should. It was a trendy, hip place but there were also some old Italian grandmas in the open kitchen making pasta in front of us, including the pasta in the giant shared dish that we got that also included sausages, meatballs, and a huge pork shank. Holy crap. We had some of the leftovers yesterday and they were somehow better than before. Good thing I wore something with a stretchy waistband to dinner ;)

Sadly this romper is now a year old, but I rounded up a few similar ones:

Dressed Up / Dressed Down

Oh don't mind me, just daydreaming about summer over here. I'm waiting for this pretty patterned romper to come in the mail - fingers crossed it fits, because I want to wear it for casual summer afternoons on the deck and date night with the hubs and everything inbetween!

The Ultimate Day to Night - Office to Bachelorette

Oh hallooooooo, Jeff and I are still living la dolce vita in Italy, so here is another previously scheduled post. I promise we'll be back soon!

So last month, I ended up having to go straight from work to a bachelorette party. I could have changed in the bathroom at work, but it seemed kind of awkward to then have to wander through the office in a tiny outfit and heels. So instead I took a different route:

Layers! I added a maxi skirt and scarf (and then a jacket because it ended up being kind of chilly) and suddenly I could wear this pretty, low-cut romper to work and no one was the wiser. Of course, the hair and makeup may have been a bit of a giveaway ;) This is different than a lot of day to night outfits in that you couldn't see most of my outfit at the beginning, but it was just as easy of a switch as when you change out a pair of shoes or switch handbags. I obviously wouldn't always recommend layering (a layered romper in particular, it adds a fun layer to the whole romper/bathroom issue), but in this case it was the perfect solution.

Oh, and can we talk about this romper? Normally stretchy waist rompers don't work on me, nor do wrap fronts (which are supposed to be great for bigger busts, but in my case usually end up showing way too much skin) but this one somehow just works. It's great for dressy occasions, but as you can see also works dressed down with a denim jacket (just wear flat sandals instead of heels).

Romping

I saw this romper on The Glossy Life and was like, "Yeah, I need that!"

Then I got it in the mail and said "Eh," so I took it back.

But I got home the next day, to find another package at my house with the same romper inside.  Just like the cat that kept coming back (did you sing that song in elementary school?)  So I thought I had to give it another try.

Fiiiiiine romper, I guess you can stay.  Until I realize I need to go to the bathroom, at least.
