This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Hung out with some friends for the Blackhawks game. I don't really care about hockey, but, you know, #itsthecup #fairweatherfan. Luckily I managed to avoid all of the Malort ;)
...Had a little dance practice with the boo, during which we stayed focused for about 2 minutes and then ended up dancing around the living room to Shut Up and Dance on repeat.
...Handed off all of our wedding DIY's to our planner and crossed a bunch of stuff off of the to-do list. Hiring a wedding planner was hands down the best decision we made in the planning process, the big day is now less than a week away and I'm as cool as a cucumber. Semi-related, I found a bottle of cucumber melon lotion in my purse this weekend. I'm not sure where it came from, since Bath & Body Works just re-released their signature scents.
...Had dinner at Irazu and am now dreaming of pepito sandwiches and oatmeal shakes.

I hope you had a good one!

Lobbing It Off

Why is it that we always want the hairstyles we can't have? I was perfectly content with having long hair and even wanted it to grow longer, but ever since I got engaged and started "growing it for the wedding" (ahem, it didn't grow at all. silly hair.) all I've wanted to do is cut it off. I'm no stranger to short hair, in the past I had a pixie and went through several iterations of bobs. Now I can't get the lob (or long bob) out of my head. It feels so perfectly "now" and looks so fun to style. I know it's so cliche to cut your hair short post-wedding, but I just can't help myself. I saw my hair stylist for a little trim last weekend, and we decided next time I come in we're doing something fun - lob, here I come!

Playing It Cool

Shirt (similar) - Loft / Jacket (similar) - Old Navy / Jeans - Gap / Booties (similar) - Kelly & Katie / Bag - Sole Society

Okay, so seriously, is it June or not? My style posts were on a pretty good spring high (there were dresses! and more dresses!) but now lately I've been back in fall. I know that today it's about 85 degrees out, but on Friday night when we wanted to do some good patio sitting for my friend's birthday it in the 50's, so I had to pull out some layers and booties (and maybe some blankets).

Let's talk about a little style insecurity I have. I've noticed lately that the only times I'm truly stumped on what to wear is when we're heading out a little further west in the city (think Wicker Park, Bucktown, the West Loop) - it's where the hipsters tend to congregate, so everyone seems to be dressed down and somehow effortlessly cool. So I try to be effortlessly cool by trying on everything in my closet, which is, you know, super effortless. And then every time I end up in this same tee shirt paired with lots of black. Like really, every time. I don't know how you got so far into my head Wicker Park, but please stop messing with me.

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Went out for a friend's birthday for dinner at West End (yaaaaaaaay steak sammies!!) and drinks out on the patio at Kaiser Tiger. It was a little chilly (we wrapped up in blankets and they even started a bonfire for us) but the patio is so nice - I can't wait to go back this summer.
...Packed up all of our wedding DIY's to send off to our planner - I kind of like that she asked for everything in advance because it means I won't be working on things up until the day before/totally freaking out. Well, maybe still freaking out.
...Hit up Square One again - additional wine and cheese were required!!
...Went out to the burbs for dinner with Jeff's parents and to meet his sister's new boyfriend - hopefully we didn't freak him out with too much wedding talk!

I hope you had a good one!

Current Wishlist

My wishlist seems strangely cohesive this month - I'm looking for blue and white, stripes, pink and orange scarves, and metallic accessories! What are you currently wishing for?

Sorry for the super short post for your Friday, my brain is just about fried out so this is all I can handle. Tonight I plan on sipping a few cocktails and trying to unwind, recharge, and forget about my gigantic to-do list, but my wedding is now just two weeks away so I'm not sure that'll happen! Hope you have a good weekend!!

Rain Rain Go Away

Rainy day style

Shirt (similar) - JCrew / Jacket (similar save or splurge) - Forever21 / Denim - Gap / Boots - Hunter / Bag (similar) - Coach Factory / Earrings - BaubleBar / Watch - Wristology / Umbrella (I also love this striped one) - Totes

constellation earrings

What happened to the April showers bringing May flowers? It's supposed to stop raining now, come on Mother Nature! This weekend was about 50 degrees and rainy the whole time, so I reverted back to some of my fall staples - stripes, my utility jacket, and the Hunters.

I feel like I get asked all the time about my Hunters, whether they're worth the price, etc. The main differences between cheaper rain boots that I've seen is that they fit much closer to my calfs, which I like since it makes me look more streamlined, they get dirty looking faster because they're real rubber (it's called blooming, see my DIY post on how to clean them on the cheap), and they haven't yet sprung a leak (fingers crossed!). Every pair of rain boots I had in the past was in the $100 and under range, and none of them lasted more than a year. That alone seems to make them worth the price.

I bought my pair on the fly in the middle of a blizzard when my snow boots died (they were the only size/color available for basically any boot I could find, and I went to 3 or 4 different stores!) and while I love them, I'm kind of sad I didn't get another color - red would be so fun!

This Weekend...

Oh hey, sorry about the delay on this post! Our internet went out at about 3pm yesterday afternoon and still wasn't on this morning, and of course my procrastinating self hadn't started on anything for this week yet. #struggs. After a momentary freakout (what did people DO before the internet?) it actually turned out to be a nice, relaxing night. So anyway, here's what else we were up to...

This weekend I...

...Had my hair and makeup trials for the wedding! And then had a very fancy day running errands with miles of false eyelashes and my hair in an updo ;) I was a little worried about the trial because I hadn't exactly done my homework and fully decided what I wanted to look like, but the girls at Sonia Roselli did an awesome job interpreting my somewhat vague requests and I walked out having acquired some new self confidence and about 4,000 bobby pins.
...Went for another facial at Mud. I'm not really a "spa" girl but I love that little bit of pampering (as does my skin!)
...Celebrated my grandma's 90th birthday with a little barbecue out in the suburbs. Of course it poured on and off all weekend and was freezing so we had to take the party inside, but it was still a nice little taste of summer.

I hope you had a good one!
