A Little Bit Festive

Coat and Skirt (I had a mini, it appears to now be available in knee length and midi) - J.Crew / Tee (similar here) - BP / Scarf and Earrings - J.Crew Factory / Flats - Sam Edelman / Bag - Tory Burch

We got out for not one, but two dates this weekend - crazy! On Sunday Jeff's brother and SIL were dying to babysit, so we ran out for a late lunch / early dinner (plus many drinks haha) at Oyster Bah. Back in pre-kids days this probably would have just been considered a normal weekend activity, but since we were out without Mia I put it down as a date and decided to dress the part.

Everything I wore (besides these earrings that came in the mail right beforehand - so freaking cute!) is actually a couple of years old! But it's all stuff that's in my regular rotation still.

I remember having this skirt on my wishlist for months and months and not wanting to pull the trigger because it was more than my budget really allowed. But now I'm glad that I got it because it's so fun to wear, and so easy to wear in different ways. (I mean really, see here, here, and here for just a few). So while it may have been more than I typically spend on a skirt, it's gotten way more wears than cheaper skirts I've already gotten rid of.

Anyway, I'm sure I had more to share, but Daylight Savings basically broke my brain. Weirdly though, Mia barely noticed.

Holiday Party Dresses

Getting dressed up for a good holiday party or New Year's Eve party is always so fun. I just love any excuse to wear a pretty dress or some sequins! When I look for a dress for holiday parties, I love to check out really preppy brands I don't normally shop, like Tuckernuck and Vineyard Vines, as they always have their plaid games on point and the cutest details too! I own the Vineyard Vines dress pictured above from a few years ago (here's the same plaid but with sleeves), and love pulling it out every holiday season despite rarely wearing the brand the rest of the year. The holiday designs are so classic and timeless (and also really well made) so I know I'll have them for years to come!

These days, opportunities to get dressed up seem to be few and far between. We ended up skipping my big fancy work holiday party this year, and the other family holiday party I used to always dress up for seems to have gotten more and more casual every year, so I haven't gotten an excuse to buy a pretty new dress! And for NYE this year, thanks to baby, my plans probably include going out to dinner with our friends and then ringing in the new year from the couch. And let's be honest here, most likely from the couch asleep haha ;)

So, let me live vicariously over here - here are a few of the dresses I'd love to have an excuse to buy!

Three Holiday Outfit Ideas

I know everyone talks about how fall clothes are their favorites, but my favorite season to dress for has slowly become the holidays! What can I say, this girl likes her plaid.

When it comes to picking out a holiday outfit, I like to look for special details. Basically, anything red, velvet, plaid, metallic, embellished, or topped with a bow will feel perfectly festive. Just don't go overboard! I limit my super holiday-ish items to two max per outfit, otherwise you end up looking like a walking present. Here are three outfit ideas for getting dressed this holiday season:

Outfit 1: Shirt, Vest, Mules, Jeans

Outfit 3: Hair Bow, Heels, Dress

Here are some more holiday pieces I have my eye on this season:

Dressing for the Holidays

Shirt, Bag (similar) and Shoes - J. Crew Factory / Skirt - J. Crew / Necklace (similar) and Bracelet (similar) - BaubleBar

One of my favorite things about the holidays is getting to wear festive holiday clothes for a month straight. My closet is currently bursting to the seams with red plaid just waiting to be worn. I picked up this shirt earlier this month and have been basically wearing it nonstop. Plaid and ruffles, what's not to love?

So what it is you should look for when putting together a fun holiday outfit? Anything red, plaid, shiny, sparkly, furry, or topped with a bow will do. Oh, and you know, the more of those items you can pair together, the better - I always prefer a "more is more" approach this time of year ;)

If you're looking to pick up something fun to wear for the holidays, now is the time so you can get as many wears as possible before January rolls around! Here are a few of my picks:

Holiday Party Look

I always wish I had some fancy holiday parties to dress up for, but all of my events every year are pretty casual.  Instead of going for jeans and sweaters though, I'm dressing up a tiny bit with some fancy skirts and metallic accessories.  I've never had any winter white items before, but this skirt is definitely my new favorite - the creamy white feels so luxe.

Tee - JCrew Factory / Skirt - Banana Republic (sold out online, similar) / Necklace - NY&Co (old, similar) / Flats - Payless / Bracelets - Baublebar & Michael Kors

When I wore this look, I had laid out my clothes before I did my hair and makeup.  When I came back to put them on, I found Jeff wearing a burgundy sweater, white shirt, and black pants.  Coincidence?  I think not!  Made me think of this.  Except both of us refused to change ;)
