Motherhood Monday: Holiday Matching
Okay, so I always knew I was going to be that mom at some point and make Mia's outfits match mine. But I hadn't fully indulged until this holiday season. Go big or go home, am I right? Here are a few of our matching outfit moments so far (and watch out Mia, because I have an exact match coming up ;):

A Little Bit Festive
Coat and Skirt (I had a mini, it appears to now be available in knee length and midi) - J.Crew / Tee (similar here) - BP / Scarf and Earrings - J.Crew Factory / Flats - Sam Edelman / Bag - Tory Burch
We got out for not one, but two dates this weekend - crazy! On Sunday Jeff's brother and SIL were dying to babysit, so we ran out for a late lunch / early dinner (plus many drinks haha) at Oyster Bah. Back in pre-kids days this probably would have just been considered a normal weekend activity, but since we were out without Mia I put it down as a date and decided to dress the part.
Everything I wore (besides these earrings that came in the mail right beforehand - so freaking cute!) is actually a couple of years old! But it's all stuff that's in my regular rotation still.
I remember having this skirt on my wishlist for months and months and not wanting to pull the trigger because it was more than my budget really allowed. But now I'm glad that I got it because it's so fun to wear, and so easy to wear in different ways. (I mean really, see here, here, and here for just a few). So while it may have been more than I typically spend on a skirt, it's gotten way more wears than cheaper skirts I've already gotten rid of.
Anyway, I'm sure I had more to share, but Daylight Savings basically broke my brain. Weirdly though, Mia barely noticed.

Naughty or Nice?
Sweatshirt (also comes in a "nice-ish" version!) - American Eagle / Maternity Leggings (or my favorite non-maternity) - Blanqi / Slippers - Talbots / Green Velvet Pillow and Faux Fur Blanket (similar here) - World Market / Plaid Pillow and Red Blanket - Pottery Barn
Less than two weeks until Christmas - are you feeling naughty or nice?
How freaking cute is this sweatshirt?! It was one of those things that I saw and immediately put in my cart. I mean, I hesitated momentarily because I'm never quite sure what's going to fit over this rapidly growing baby bump I'm sporting. But really, it's so freaking cute I would have also been happy to put it away until next year. I mean, not happy because really I put it on my body as soon as I got it in the mail, but it still would have been worth it.
This sweatshirt is actually from American Eagle. I know. I haven't shopped there since college, when it was the only place to buy cheap jeans that came in longer lengths. And when I say "cheap," I mean back then spending $40 on a pair of jeans was a huge splurge. College Kristina was poor. And probably spent too much of her hard earned cash from two different part time jobs on parties and buying costumes for parties. College Kristina's priorities were definitely in order - who needs pants anyway?!
So anyway, I was a little hesitant to shop at the old AE again, mainly because I had no idea how sizing would work. I ended up snagging this in an XL, and the fit is perfect! It fits the bump now, but it's definitely the right amount of oversized that it would fit really well without a giant basketball under my shirt too. My only complaint is that the sleeves are just a touch short, and I would assume that as you go for smaller sizes the sleeves get shorter too.
I'm actually wearing basically this same exact outfit as I type this - it's basically been my go-to outfit lately and will be through the rest of the month! Cozy, comfy, and festive - what's not to love?!

Another Cape
Cape (50% off with free shipping!) - LOFT / Maternity Tee (or my fav non-maternity) - Old Navy / Maternity Leggings (or my fav non-maternity) - Blanqi / Booties - TOMS / Bag - Tory Burch / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Hair Bow - J.Crew
And the pregnancy uniform continues!! I was telling Jeff the other day, having my pregnancy uniform - leggings, a tee shirt, and a layer on top - makes getting dressed both easier and harder. Easier because I basically don't have to think at all when I'm getting dressed, but harder because it's really easy to get outfit fatigue. Outfit fatigue, is that a thing, or did I just make it up? Either way, I'm going with it!
I was starting to get very bored with all of my cardigans, so I was happy to snag this pretty red cape on sale last week. It looks like every retailer in existence extended their Cyber Monday sales through today, so it actually is still on sale for 50% off with free shipping!
I love this particular cape because it's so soft. Usually capes like these are more on the scratchy side, but not this one! I could curl up in it and take a nap. Just a note though - because it's so soft it also sheds a bit, which I discovered wearing it out last week - I ended up with fuzzies all over my white tee! So it's maybe not best with white ;)
I also love that it's reversible, because the red is so fun for the holiday season but I'll still be able to get a lot of the use out of the navy side during the rest of the year. How cute would the navy be paired with jeans and booties?! Definitely keeping this in heavy rotation for the rest of the arctic tundra winter that has already descended on Chicago.

Holiday Style Ideas
I know I've mentioned it before, but festive holiday clothes are my favorites to shop for. Everything is just so fun! When it comes to shopping for holiday clothes, I love anything plaid, but I also like to mix in anything red, leather or velvet, metallic, or fun holiday designs. Here's a few items on my wish list:

A Date Day in Lincoln Park
Coat and Hat - J. Crew / Scarf and Sweater - J. Crew Factory / Jeans - Gap / Booties - TOMS / Bag - Sezane / Necklace - Stella & Dot
Jeff and I have this habit of being really lazy on our days off (or, more likely, both spend too much time working!), and by the time we get our acts together we realize we missed the whole day. I was determined NOT to have that happen over Christmas this year, so I (maybe overscheduled) a little date day for us.
We started with checking out Christmas decorations in Lincoln Park, hot chocolate in hand. Let me tell you, we found some crazy houses. I know that one that we saw was the most expensive house for sale in Chicago, but honestly, a lot of the others in that area must be close in price. Like, these pictures for example, were taken in front of a crazy huge mansion. I kept asking Jeff when we could move in - ha!
Our next stop was Zoo Lights at the Lincoln Park Zoo. The last few times I've gone haven't been the best experiences, either because of crazy cold weather or huge crowds and terrible traffic jams because of too nice of weather. Seriously, my parents actually abandoned their car in the parking lot once because they literally couldn't get out of the lot. But I think I now know the trick - go when the weather isn't so bad, and arrive before Zoo Lights actually starts! We probably got to the zoo around 3:30 and got to see all of the animals with very few people around, and then went outside as the lights came on and got to enjoy before all of the crowds showed up.
After that, we walked up to Halsted Street for drinks and dinner at Oyster Bah. We'd never been before, and I was seriously impressed by the quality of the seafood, especially considering we'd just had one of the top ranked oysters in the world in Paris. Not that I have a fine enough palette to judge, but we were at least told we'd had one of the top ranked oysters in the world ;) Really, Oyster Bah was probably the best seafood I've ever had that wasn't from a beach town.
And then to cap the night off, we went to a wine and paint class at Bottles & Bodega. I've done a couple of these before with girlfriends (and attended ladies night once ;) but Jeff had never been before. I always find the painting fun and relaxing, and heck, who doesn't love a couple glasses of wine?! Now we just need to figure out what to do with two semi-decent paintings of the Chicago skyline...
It was pre-Christmas, but I was trying not to go too Christmassy with this outfit - I actually had a different hat and bag picked out, but ended up not liking the combo, so we somehow wound up with this. All of the red and green. But you can pretend, right, that my holiday style is still relevant to your day-to-day? Please?
