A Little Leather

Shirt (similar) - LOFT / Skirt - J. Crew / Heels - Michael Kors / Bag (similar) - Coach Factory / Bracelet (similar) - BaubleBar

My very first thought when I saw this skirt was that I wanted to pair it with this oxford - you know, a little leather and a little blink. I don't know if you can tell, but I love this shirt (seen here, here, here...). It's basically your regular classic oxford, but with a little extra sparkle. If I could have a little extra sparkle on every clothing item I owned I would basically be in heaven. Maybe I should buy a bedazzler....

This week I've been traveling for work and needed to dress up a bit, and I love having this skirt in my arsenal. I always want to wear a-line shapes because they're the most flattering on my body, but they can also end up looking a little too sweet in a business setting. Put an a-line in leather though, and everyone knows not to mess with you. Especially all of the 22 year old boys I work with. Gotta keep 'em in check somehow ;)

Late Summer White Denim

Shirt (similar) - LOFT / Jeans - Old Navy / Flats - Tory Burch / Watch - Wristology

I was going through my closet last week and realized I had totally forgot about this jeweled collar oxford from last fall. While I've previously worn it with coated skinnies and dark denim, while it's still warm out it felt fresher to pair it with white denim. The unofficial end of summer (& the white denim season) may have come and gone, but fall doesn't actually start until the 23rd, and has still been hot. I've been seriously amused seeing other bloggers already out in their fall layers, puffer vests, and blanket scarves - come on ladies, you and I both know it's still way too warm for that!

The whole jeweled top trend has been around for a couple years now but I'm still loving it - the detailing makes every piece extra special. Sadly this shirt is no longer available, but I've linked up some more jeweled shirt options below:

Winter Blues

Shirt (similar) - Loft / Jeans - Madewell / Booties (similar) - Kelly & Katie / Watch - Kate Spade / Glasses - c/o Firmoo

I feel like my style has gotten simpler and simpler lately. What I'm really craving is no longer colors or patterns or trends, but really just basics with a little flair, like the jeweled collar on this oxford. I wore this over the weekend for running errands and grabbing lunch with my sister and mom, and felt perfectly casual but still put together.

Oh, and don't worry your pretty little head about me being too cold - these pictures were taken about  a week after our big blizzard, so while snow was still everywhere it was actually a balmy 40 degrees.  I still did put on my giant puffer coat though, because I decided I prefer being comfortable without a hat or gloves in my giant coat to having to wear all of my winter accessories with my fancier wool coats. Ugh, winter, what are you doing to me?

Jeweled & Coated

Shirt and Sweater (similar) - Loft / Jeans (similar) - American Eagle / Flats (similar) - Target

Hellooooo from chilly Minneapolis! These pictures may have been taken on my usual rooftop balcony but today I'm actually traveling for work. I can't imagine being one of those people who jets off all the time, but I like the occasional business trip for a little change of pace and because they're usually great bonding experiences with co-workers. Another great bonding experience? Company parties, and we're having ours tomorrow. I'm interested to see how it goes, I've heard tales of previous parties ending with the guys shirtless and wrestling on the floor. Totally normal.

And now for a complete one eighty topic wise - this shirt! Since before I even purchased this jeweled collar shirt, I wanted to pair it with a little faux leather. I think the little bit of shine from the pants and collar play off of each other really well, while the sweater tones it down for everyday style. I have a really casual workplace, so I can get away with things like coated denim in the office as long as they're toned down with more classic pieces.

Stripes & Sparkles

Shirt and Blouse - Loft / Jeans - Gap / Flats (similar) - Tory Burch / Bracelet (similar) - BaubleBar

I originally bought this jewel collar oxford back in September, when I commented that I was unsure of it because it was a little big. Well, lo and behold, Loft had another sale (shocker, I know) so I reordered a size down and now the fit is perfect. I also just had to order a few more things when I reordered (you know, for the free shipping!) and ended up picking up this sweatshirt tee. I love that the tee can go super casual for a lazy Sunday, but can also be dressed up a little for the office. I feel like I say this all of the time, but seriously, this may be my new favorite tee. I'm actually wearing it again as I write this (these pictures are from last week), and it's oh so cozy. Sweatshirt tee FTW.

Pink & Jeweled

Blouse - c/o Lovelywholesale.com / Skirt - Loft (old, similar) / Heels - Shoe Mint (old, similar) / Watch - Kate Spade

You guys know by now that I love a good jeweled collar, and this blouse is no exception.  I love the way they dress up an outfit, and they take away the need for a lot of jewelry.  This top is making me wish I had a pair of dressy black shorts or a cute circle skirt.  With this particular skirt it's feeling a little too put together.  With a pair of shorts and these heels, it could definitely be date night or going out wear, and with a circle skirt and some flat sandals it would be a super fun and girly look.

I hope you're having a great Friday!

Black and Blue

Happy Friday everyone!! Is it just me, or did this week feel loooong?  I had shortened weeks for almost all of December, so it was really tough coming back full time.

Top - JCrew Factory (similar here and here) / Pants - Gap (old, similar here and here) / Booties - BCBG (old, similar) / Bag - Unknown (similar here, here, here)

These pants are my new go-to party pants.  I actually originally purchased them a couple of years back when I had to wear dress pants to work every day (we've since gone casual - yessssss), but I recently rediscovered them as an alternative to leggings.  They have a similar look, but are a lot thicker than regular leggings (we're talking fully, 100% opaque) and can actually be worn with a shorter top without being scandalous.  I texted my sister while I was wearing them and said I was out at a party wearing dress pants, and I believe her return text was "WHO ARE YOU??"

Two Ways to Wear JCrew Jewel Collar Tee

When Kaitlin from Tea and Sequins guest posted for me while I was on vacation, I mentioned that we sometimes end up buying the same pieces.  One of the items in both of our closets is JCrew's gorgeous jeweled collar tee shirt.

What I really like about this shirt is that it can be dressed up or dressed down so easily.   Kaitlin paired hers with a cute pencil skirt and booties, but I decided to dress mine down with chambray and flats.

I personally love the faux necklace trend, but there is a little downside - I wore this to work, and both my boss and a coworker told me they were distracted by the neckline during a meeting because they couldn't figure out if I was wearing a necklace or not!

Dressy-Casual

When I get dressed, I'm usually going for a good blend of dressed up but still casual, so that no matter where we end up I'm dressed appropriately.  This look seems like the perfect dressy-casual outfit.  Plus it includes a jeweled collar and cut-out back, so really, where can you go wrong?

Top - Chloe K / Shorts - Target (very old, similar) / Bag - H&M (very old) / Flats - Payless / Earrings - c/o Shopbevel / Bracelet - Fancy Frills

I've been slowly adding a lot of this color blue to my closet, I think it's going to be one of my favorites for fall.
