A Little Ruffle

Shirt - Banana Republic / Jeans - Old Navy / Sandals - Dolce Vita / Bag - Rebecca Minkoff / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Bracelet - Michael Kors

I've been super into fun sleeves lately (ahem, ahem) so when I saw this top I basically had to have it. I must have waited a little too long (because I can't handle buying something that isn't on sale) and by the time I went to buy it the regular size must have been sold out because I accidentally bought a petite! I'm 5'9" so you'd think a petite wouldn't work on me, but I'm also really short waisted so it actually worked on me. I figured out that I was short waisted for the first time when I was in middle school and my friends were talking about how they could never imagine wearing high-waisted jeans because if their jeans covered their belly buttons they would "like, die." But all of my jeans, even low-rise, always covered my belly button! I was in middle school though, so I said that I would "totally die" too while nervously pulling down my shirt. Now though, I can proudly admit that I'm a short person on the top and a really tall person on the bottom ;)

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Went over to a friend's house for some pizzas on the grill and a little Settlers of Catan. I know I'm about ten years late on this one, but I'm seriously obsessed with this game - Jeff and I decided we need to buy a set for ourselves! #nerdalert
...Grabbed brunch at Corridor and while I went in with plans to have a healthy meal had to surrender to the breakfast pizza again. Luckily I went with the husband this time, so he agreed to split a pizza and a salad with me. And when I say "agreed" I mean was basically forced into surrendering ;)
...Finished a painting for our living room! We've only lived in our place for, oh, nine months, and still have barely managed to get anything up on the walls. Like, we've put stuff up in hallways and bathrooms because those seem like low-stress areas, but have been having a hard time committing to anything for the living/dining room and our bedroom. I found a couple of pieces I liked on Minted, but wanted a huge print for our dining room and didn't feel like spending $500+ on something I wasn't really sure about. So instead I went to Michael's with a few coupons and walked out with some paint and a big canvas for $30. It took a few tries but I wound up with something I really like for the space, expect a reveal on Insta or Snapchat (depending on my confidence level haha - both are @kristinadoes) in the next couple of days.
...Went on a little date night with Jeff to Artango, and holy provolone cheese! One of their apps is basically some fancy melted cheese and I just about died at the table it was so good. Jeff and I go out to dinner fairly often, but it was fun to plan a specific date night and dress up a little, made things feel more special.
...Made some of these watermelon rosé margaritas, and oh my gee where have you been all my life?!
...Watched so much of the Olympics! Are you super into the Olympics too? I couldn't care less about most sports, but I go crazy for the Olympics every time. I've been super into the bicycling, swimming, and gymnastics so far! Jeff was a swimmer and is super obsessed so he actually had us tape the primetime coverage while we were out to dinner so we could watch when we got home.
...Spent an afternoon babysitting my little niece. She's only, oh, 13 months old and we haven't babysat her before, so Jeff and I felt like we should sneak a little time in ;)

I hope you had a good one!

Friday Finds

Happy Friday!!! I found a long sleeved version of my favorite striped tee, eeee! Do I need the same tee in long and short sleeve versions? Probably not, looks like I'll have to hold myself back...

Orange on Orange

Dress - J. Crew / Belt (similar) - Old Navy / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Sandals (similar) - Sole Society / Bag (similar) - Ann Taylor / Bracelet - Michael Kors

How have I not shared this dress on the blog yet?! I bought it back in May for my sister-in-law's graduation, and have since worn it all over town. It may actually be your lucky day though, because the dress is now super marked down. I actually was going to buy the white version, but the sales lady told me I had to go with the orange. I'm pretty glad I listened to her! I thought that the orange would be a little too crazy with my hair, but somehow it works.

Somehow my closet has gone from crazy colorful to super neutral over the past few years, and having something fun and bright to pull out is so perfect for the summer. I especially love it for the office. My office is pretty casual so traditional work dresses can feel a bit stuffy, but in orange (and paired with my denim jacket) it's just right. I'm kind of wishing I had a late summer wedding coming up so I'd have a fun reason to dress this little number up a bit like I did here! Last year we had wedding after wedding all summer long, but this year we just have a couple in fall and early winter (which means I get to break out this ruffled number again - eee!).

There are the ones where I blink:

And there are the ones where for some reason this is happening:

Some Stripes, Some Gray

Tee and Skirt (similar) - J. Crew Factory / Bag - Sole Society / Sandals - Dolce Vita / Necklace (similar) and Bracelet - BaubleBar

Whenever I can't figure out what the heck to pull out of my closet in the morning, I fall back on one of my two standbys - gray or stripes. I must have been seriously struggling this weekend when I decided to go for both gray and stripes at once ;) They both just seem to go with everything!

This skirt has been in my closet for a few seasons now, and I'm seriously considering it in another color (like this pretty gray - currently on sale!). I can just see it looking oh-so-cute with a cable sweater and flats for fall. While my little denim mini skirts from college are no longer in my regular rotation, higher-waisted minis like this one definitely are! The length is still fun, but the cut feels much more appropriate for my age. Or, you know, appropriate-ish ;) This one definitely wouldn't pass the fingertip rule! Did you have that rule in school? For me, skirts always had to come down past the tips of my fingers in high school, and I still use that rule when I'm trying to figure out if a length is appropriate or not! Just think of all of the things I've forgotten since high school, yet the fingertip rule is still stuck in my brain.

What's your go-to outfit when you don't know what to wear?

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Went with my family and Jeff's family to a Cubs game on Saturday - they lost but we got in a lot of family time and a lot of junk food, which makes it a good day in my book!
...Had a few friends over to hang on the roof - this is the first time since the beginning of June (!!!) that I've been home for a weekend (and Jeff wasn't sick), so we took full advantage of a beautiful summer night at home.
...Finally met our friend's new baby, Henry (how cute is that name?!) who's somehow already a month old and the cutest little sweetheart.
...Somehow got Jeff to go to the mall with me! We basically only shopped for new clothes for him and we spent the majority of our time eating Frontera, but still, a major success.

Did you get up to anything fun this weekend?
