Spill It: Bridal Hair

Image sources can be found on my Pinterest board

Planning a wedding makes you think about all sorts of little details you never thought you'd care about.  And actually still don't really care that much about, in my case.  One thing I knew I'd have to think about was my hair - would I try to grow it longer?  Stop cutting my bangs?  Change the color?  Ha, just kidding on that one, I'm never changing the color!

I casually said something to my hair stylist about having to decide whether to grow it longer, and she told me that she actually has a set formula for brides.  Starting at least a year before the wedding, she stops cutting layers in their hair, and instead only gives a tiny trim and does some face framing so that when the big day comes it's easier to put your hair in an up-do.

I was really surprised.  So, for a year before my wedding, I have to have the same sad haircut I had in middle school?  All for one good hair day?  Sounds crazy, right?

At this point I'm not sure I even want an up-do, so I may eschew her advice and keep cutting my hair normally.   I'm just curious, have you heard of this before?  Is it something you did before your wedding?  Spill it!

Emerald and Dots

Every year around December this green cardigan becomes my new best friend.  Paired with polka dots and some pretty jewels and I'm golden.

Cardigan - F21 (old, similar) / Shirt and Necklace (similar) - JCrew Factory / Jeans - Gap / Boots - Bandolino (old, similar) / Watch and Bracelet - Michael Kors / Bracelet - Baublebar

Looking at this post is making me realize how much my style has evolved over the past couple of years.  I never used to wear button downs, and if I added a cardigan to an outfit it was strictly for warmth purposes.  I threw on an outfit the other day when all of my clothes were dirty and was instantly taken back to 2008 Kristina, who wore a lot of v-neck tee shirts with camis and rarely sported any jewelry.  If only that girl could see me now, she'd be so proud!

Wrap it Up

Something my siblings always seem to make fun of is the time I put into wrapping presents.  But, hello, opening a pretty package is half the fun of getting a present!

One year I cut out little forest scenes out of magazine pages and added polar bear stickers as tags.  Another year I used quite a lot of twine and bows.  Last year though, I decided to go classy with my presents with foil wrapping paper, tags made of metallic tagboard, and some fancy ribbon from Target.  I went a little crazy in the after Christmas sales last year and bought some extra wrapping supplies, so it's likely this is what my presents will look like this year too.

Looking for other wrapping ideas?  Try these cool chalkboard presents or go natural with kraft paper and an evergreen sprig.

Are you a pretty present proponent?  Or are you a giftbag-and-go kind of gal?

Enter to Win with Hpnotiq's SparkleLouder Contest

This post is sponsored by Hpnotiq but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A couple of weeks ago I introduced you to Hpnotiq's SparkleLouder contest.  Luckily for you, there's still time to enter!  Every entry gives you more weekly chances to win one of 20 EFFY Diamond & Blue Topaz Rings Sweepstakes Prizes (four each week).  The entry that Sparkles the Loudest will win the Grand Prize: A New Year’s Eve trip for you and three girlfriends to New York City for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the ball drop in Times Square.  What would be more fun than NYE in NYC?

To enter, visit http://www.hpnotiq.com/SparkleLouderContest and upload a pic showing how you plan to Sparkle Louder on New Year’s Eve - whether it’s a glam outfit, you with your girlfriends or a selfie. Then use Hpnotiq’s “SparkleLouder” app to make your photo shine, like mine above.  Hpnotiq’s SparkleLouder contest runs from November 4 - December 8, 2013 so make sure to enter soon.  When you share your SparkleLouder entries on social media, be sure to use the hashtag #SparkleLouder.

What would you do on your perfect New Year's Eve?  Sure, I think it would be fun to host a party at home, but my ideal NYE definitely includes no work, so I would go to some fabulous party downtown and take a limo so there would be no fighting for cabs at the end of the night.  Of course, my perfect NYE also includes some sparkling cocktails, like Hpnotiq's Dazzler (2 oz of Hpnotiq Harmonie and 2 oz of champagne, chilled and poured in a champagne flute).  Champagne is always a must for me on NYE, so any cocktail that includes it is my best friend.

Have you started planning your NYE yet?  Remember, it's never too early!  New Year's seems to sneak up on me every year, but not this time!

This Weekend...

This (extra long) weekend I...

...Cut down my very own Christmas tree! And when I say "cut down" I mean "watched Jeff do it."  And then almost lost said tree on the side of the highway.
...Got aaaaaalmost all of my Christmas shopping done, hooray for online shopping!
...Saw all sides of Jeff's family and enjoyed two delicious Thanksgiving dinners.
...Did some cuddling with my sister's dog on a lazy Sunday morning.
...Tried artichokes for the first time.  Not bad.
...Did stop through one store on Black Friday (shhhhh, don't tell) to buy Jeff a coat that was on super clearance - marked down from $500 to $95!  We were going to just buy it online, but he wanted to try it on first.  Plus we were already downtown for lunch with the fam, so we zipped through on our way home.  Plus, apparently I'm a hypocrite.
...Did lots of decorating and cleaning - Christmas is only three and a half weeks away!

Hope you had a good one!  Don't forget to enter the Rebecca Minkoff giveaway here.
