This Weekend...
This weekend I...
...Was in Kansas City for a friend's wedding! It was our first time in Kansas City, so we made sure to get in lots of barbecue (was 2x a day too much?) and tried to see some of the sites. Our hotel was in Country Club Plaza, a big, pretty outdoor shopping area, so we spent a lot of time wandering and checking out the restaurants and bars in the area. The wedding was also beautiful, with the reception at a fancy historic mansion, and we had a great time dancing the night away. I thought it was going to be a weird day since Jeff was in the wedding and there was a huge gap between the ceremony and reception, but I ended up having a great time with the rest of the wedding party dates. Oh oh and like my sparkly dress? It was another Rent the Runway pick! I was sad to send it back today, the sparkles were so fun!
I hope you had a good one!

Travel Style
Oh hey there! Today I'm headed to Kansas City, and by the time you read this I'll probably already be on the ground and heading out to explore. Whenever I travel early in the morning, I try to pick an outfit that will be comfy for the plane (and make getting up so early not seem quite so gross), but will also work once I land. This weekend, that means leggings, a comfy sweater, and cute but easy accessories.
Have a great weekend!

Faux Layers
Sweater (similar) and Jeans (similar) - LOFT / Booties (similar) - Sole Society / Watch - Wristology / Necklace (similar) - J. Crew Factory
I love me some layers, but sometimes they just sit a little wonky, or they aren't quite the right lengths, or you get too hot because you're wearing three shirts in 65 degree weather. That's why I love this faux-layered sweater - it gives the look of layering without the stress. We've had some beautiful weather this week, so I took the opportunity to show off my ankles and wear just one shirt at a time.
Tomorrow we're heading to Kansas City for a friend's wedding! I've never been before and am excited for all of the barbecue. Jeff is actually in the wedding & has lots of activities he has to do so I might be wandering the city alone - let me know if there's anything I should check out!

Review: HASK Keratin Smoothing Hair Care Collection
Here's a little bonus post for your Wednesday, powered by BrandBacker
I don't know about you, but my hair seems to need a little boost every fall. A combination of chlorine and sun from the summer plus drier air and more blow drying to avoid hair icicles in the morning always leaves my hair dry, dull, and lifeless. That's why I was really excited to try the HASK Keratin Smoothing Hair Care Collection. The whole line is designed to soften and renew your hair, which are two things I could definitely use!
What makes this set of products special is that they're made with Keratin, which is the same stuff that your hair is actually made of, so when it says it restores your hair it is NOT playing around.
First up at bat were the shampoo and conditioner. I lathered on up and then left the conditioner in for a few minutes, but couldn't tell a difference while I was in the shower. Once I added the Keratin Smoothing Shine Treatment (which is a hair oil you put on damp hair to reduce frizz) and went for the blow dry though - holy cow! My hair was seriously SO shiny. Like, shampoo commercial shiny. Basically every girl's dream.
Next up was the Smoothing Deep Conditioner, which I used after shampooing. Now I LOVE deep conditioners and masks and whatnot and use them all the time, so I was especially excited to try this out. I could tell it worked as soon as I rinsed it out of my hair. Hellooooooo shiny, super soft hair. It's like those fancy & expensive Keratin treatments I sometimes get tricked into doing at the salon but without the price tag - super yay.
So tell me, would you try the HASK Keratin Smoothing Collection?

Daylight Savings
Sweater (similar) - LOFT / Scarf and Bag (similar) - Old Navy / Denim - Gap / Bracelet (similar) - Stella & Dot / Flats - Tory Burch
I love the fall, but I hate the time change every year. Getting less sunlight can really mess with your body & your mind. I used to actually try changing my sleeping patterns gradually before a time change, waking up & going to bed 15 minutes later (or earlier in the spring) every day to prep my body.
Turns out Daylight Savings also messes with your blog photo schedule - I was getting ready to take these photos, looked out the window, and realized the sun had already set! That's why the lighting is a little funny - it's actually all coming from the streetlamps. Whoops. I'll try to do better next week - in the meantime, try to go get yourself some more Vitamin D!

This Weekend...
This weekend I...
...Had a little Halloween party! Halloween is always my favorite holiday because I love costumes - this year Jeff and I dressed up as Burt Macklin and Janet Snakehole. I had a lot of candy and a whole lot of "Hallowine" ;)
...Celebrated Halloween at work dressed up as "Fantasy Football" and went out with my coworkers to celebrate the end of our quarter, and then maybe had to take a train back in the city at midnight and maybe tricked Jeff into picking me up ;)
...Went over to a friend's for brunch and tried shakshuka, and oh my gee I need to make this all the time - so good!!
...Had dinner with my family and my adorable little baby niece, who finally figured out how to hold stuff. Get it girl!
I hope you had a good one!! We have a pretty crazy week coming up (more details coming soon!) and then on Friday we're heading to Kansas City for a friend's wedding. I've never been before and need the barbecue - let me know where I should go!

In Shower Body Lotion & Oil
Moisturizing is one of those things I tend to slack on, and every fall when the air starts to get dry it comes back to bite me in the butt. Sometimes my skin gets so itchy that I wake up in the middle of the night and have to slather on the body lotion.
For some reason, while putting on lotion after a shower seems like too much work, putting on lotion or body oil in the shower is perfectly acceptable to me (maybe because it gives me another minute or two in the hot water ;). There are some new options in stores for in-shower moisturizing so I thought I'd test them out for you.
First up is Neutrogena Body Oil. This stuff smells so good, and I really like that you can use it as a moisturizer or can put it in your bath. While it makes my skin look nice, I don't think it actually moisturizes that well - it feels like it's just sitting on top of your skin rather than sinking in. This would probably work for the summer time, but doesn't quite cut it for dry winter skin.
The second is a bit of a throwback for me - Johnson's Baby Oil Gel. I actually used this a lot in middle and high school when my skin was a little more sensitive. If I put nothing on my legs after I shaved them, they would be really dry, but lotion typically gave a bit of an allergic reaction. So I started using regular baby oil, and switched to the gel version because the thicker formula means it doesn't just run all over your shower and get it really slippery and then make your dad really mad at you. I thought I'd give it a try again this year and actually still really like it - it definitely provides that deep moisturization I need and is great for sensitive skin. What I don't like though is that it leaves a bit of a sticky residue, so it makes my legs stick to my pants which is kind of gross.
The last thing I tried is Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion, which, like the name suggests, is lotion you can put on in the shower. At the end of your shower, you slather on the lotion and then rinse it off. Bada bing banda boom. I tried two versions of this, Hydrating for normal to dry skin, and Smoothing for dry skin. While I liked the Hydrating version, once I tried Smoothing there was no going back - it really leaves your skin feeling like you put on lotion after you get out of the shower and lasts until your next shower. This was definitely my favorite of all the products I tried, and I'm definitely going to keep using it!
Have you tried any of these products? What's your favorite?
