The Weekend...
This weekend I...
...had a night at home by myself while Jeff was volunteering with his youth group, and spent it catching up on Real World and The Challenge. Yes, those shows are still on tv, and yes, I definitely still watch ;)
...Grabbed breakfast to go at Bang Bang Pie & Biscuits (which just opened in our neighborhood - yay!), and had the equivalent of avocado toast on a biscuit instead, which, let me tell you, is an awfully good idea ;) And then had the song "Bang Bang" stuck in my head the rest of the day.
...Went on a hunt for new shoes, but came home with this bright orange eyelet dress from J. Crew. I figure I can wear it dressed for my sister-in-law's graduation next weekend, but also paired with a denim jacket and sandals for a casual night out this summer.
...Had my sister's family over dinner at our place, which meant I got to squish my niece Mae's chubby little cheeks one million times. Jeff loves Mae, which is so cute to see!
...Went out on a little date night to Ampersand. We don't often repeat restaurants, so a second visit is definitely a good sign. Another good sign is potatoes drowning in truffled creme fraiche. Plus, you know, it's really close to our house, which means I can wear really impractical shoes ;)
I hope you had a good one!

More Tassels Please!
Shirt (similar) - LOFT / Denim (similar) - Madewell / Bag (similar) - Coach Factory / Sandals - Sole Society / Belt - Old Navy / Necklace - Stella & Dot / Watch - Wristology
I sent a picture of these sandals to my sister to see if she thought they were cute (I was guessing they would definitely fall into the hate category for her ;) and she wrote back "What's up with all of the tassels?!"
I'm not always super into trends, but tassels have me falling hard. They just up the cuteness factor on anything (including my new tassel slippers from Target), plus they add some fun detail to an otherwise plain look. Right now there are tassels on my shoes, on my pillows, on my placemats, on my jewelry, on my purses... let's just say I hope it's a trend that sticks around for a while!
Are you into tassels this spring too, or is there another trend that's pulling on your heartstrings?

5 Things You (Probably) Don't Know About Me
Oh hey there! I decided to do something a little different than my usual blog post today and get (a little bit) personal with you:
1. I'm super afraid of the dark, which is actually because I'm afraid that there will be a stranger in my house #strangerdanger. If Jeff is ever away for the night I'll turn on all of the lights while it's still light outside, and then as it gets dark slowly turn off lights & retreat (ahem, run) into the bedroom. I also always check behind shower curtains to make sure there isn't anyone hiding back there, but that's also partially because once when I was a kid I hid in the shower during a game of hide and seek, and then my grandma actually came in and used the bathroom. So. Embarrassing.
2. I was a ghost writer on two books, including a New York Times best seller. Now, these were both business books that I wrote for my CEO at my first job, so don't go getting super excited, it's not like I wrote Twilight or anything ;) Both books are about keeping employees happy and engaged in the workplace, which I think 23 year old me was definitely qualified to write about.
3. I'm a weirdly picky eater, but seeing as I come from a family of really weirdly picky eaters I never realized my "things" were weird until I left home. I won't eat a lot of fruit (I'm mostly just into berries, apples, oranges, and bananas) and I won't eat any cooked fruit - that means pies, cobblers, jellies, etc. I also don't like most condiments, like mayo, mustard, relish, sour cream, cream cheese... And if a dessert doesn't have chocolate in it, well then no thank you! My siblings on the other hand both don't like chocolate, my sister refuses to eat tomatoes, peppers or onions, and my brother hates peanut butter and just about all desserts. Freaks.
4. I am totally obsessed with Harry Potter. The first book came out when I was the same age as Harry so I literally got to grow up with the series. If I had to guess, I've probably read the earlier books in the series 50 times each and the later ones 30-40. It's gotten to the point where I probably have most of them memorized. My sister and I keep joking that half of our texts these days are about inconsistencies and logistics in the books (because, like, if they teach Alohomora to every first year then why do they bother locking any doors?) If you ever want a real treat, just ask me to sing the school song, because yes, I know it.
5. When I was in college my friend and I won a canoe marathon. Yes, like a regular marathon just in a canoe. If you know me, this is super amusing because I am not athletic. Like, if I could never go to the gym again I would be very very happy. Our parents did this race for years so we decided to enter, because how hard could it really be?! It turns out, very hard, and it took us freaking forever to finish. The thing is, when we registered my friend and I were both under the age of 18, putting us in the kids division. We thought we had done terribly, only to hear our names called in first place because we were competing against ten year olds! They gave us a giant heavy trophy of an old man with a paddle for winning, and you had better believe I've had that thing on display at every place I've lived in since.
So there you have it, five things you probably didn't know about me!

Additional Blue & Pink Required
Shirt (similar) - LOFT / Skirt (similar and only $20!) - Ann Taylor Factory / Blazer (factory version) - J. Crew / Heels - Michael Kors / Necklace - c/o Happiness Boutique / Watch - Wristology
I hope you didn't think I was kidding when I said all I was planning on wearing for spring and summer was blue and white and pink, because seriously, that's all you'll be seeing around here for a while ;) I actually went and bought my niece another blue and white outfit with some pink embroidery (and two pink swimsuits - why are baby swimsuits so darn adorable?!) so we can match all summer long too haha.

This Weekend...
This weekend I...
...Suprised my mom for an early Mother's Day dinner. I wasn't able to see her on Mother's Day, so I was trying to figure out a way to sneak out to the suburbs. She and my dad usually celebrate Fridays with pizza and movies, so my sister's family and I showed up with her favorite pizzas on Friday night and she was so surprised. Love you Mom!
...Celebrated Jeff's birthday with a bunch of friend's at the Cubs game on Saturday. The weather wasn't great but there were lots of snacks and bevies and the Cubbies pulled out a W which is all you really need, amiright?
...Went out to breakfast at Over Easy after forgetting it was Mother's Day and literally everyone and their mom was there ;) We waited a long time but the breakfast sopes and strawberry-orange juice made it well worth the wait.
...Had dinner at Jeff's parents' to celebrate his birthday and Mother's Day and eat an insane amount of paella.
Hope you had a good one! I'm heading out of town for work again this afternoon (see you soon, Atlanta!) so I have some posts pre-scheduled - I'll catch you on the flip!

Friday Finds
I had one of those weeks where I looked in my closet and hated everything. I think it may be because I keep buying fun and trendy items that don't necessarily mix and match well, versus basics that I can pair with that fun pair of shoes or that patterned skirt. Even though I've recognized the problem I still seem to only want the fun statement items, like these gorgeous dresses or some striped shorts. I haven't actually made any purchases yet for the month so hopefully I can turn it around!
