Beach Life

Sweatshirt (similar here, here, and here) - Talbots / Shorts - J. Crew Factory / Sandals (similar here and here) - Old Navy

And just when you thought I was done with beach pictures, I snuck another set in! I actually thought I had shared everything from our trip to Florida at the beginning of June too, so it turns out we both got got.

On beach trips I always pack a few sweatshirts, and inevitably it's always too warm to wear them! I swear, I even tried to pull one out at 7am one overcast morning, and I still ended up sweating. That's why I love this cute short sleeve pullover - it gives me a tiny bit of warmth but is still great for even the hottest of beach weeks.

This exact sweatshirt is from last year (sorry sorry sorry for literally waiting a year to share it with you!!) but the joke may be on me because there's an even cuter option available this year. Somebody hold me back!

And while we're talking about the outfit, I'd be remiss not to mention these white shorts. This pair has been my favorite for years now. They're so flattering and comfortable with a lot of stretch but somehow never seem to get stretched out. I've gotten crazy stains on them over the years but have always managed to get them out - my trick for keeping white bottoms fresh is this stain remover spray for any stains, and tossing a couple of bleach packets into the wash whenever they start looking dingy.

These pictures are making me dream of another beach week - anyone else?! I'm amazingly good at relaxing, I could seriously spend a whole week just hanging out by a pool and not get bored. While we don't have another beach trip on the horizon, we are heading to Michigan next week with our friends to spend a weekend in a pretty house on a river - not quite the same trip but at least I'll get an excuse to wear this pullover again!

Another Little White Dress

Dress (similar here and here) - Lilly Pulitzer / Bag - Clare V / Scarf (similar here and here) - Vera Bradley / Earrings (similar here too) - BaubleBar / Sandals (similar here, here, and here) - Sole Society / Bracelet - Michael Kors

My favorite little white dress made another appearance during our trip to the beach last week (previously seen here and here). I mean, is it even a beach trip if you don't wear a white dress?

Okay, yes, probably.

This white dress was actually one of many white pieces I brought to the beach because, well, it's the beach, but the only one of those white items that escaped the trip unscathed. My white shorts? Covered in dirt. My white tank? Attacked by my blush, and later by my rum drink. My white tee? Succumbed to some very melty mint chocolate chip. But the little white dress? Safe.

I feel like I just jinxed it.

The Little Mermaid

Dress - J.Crew Factory / Sandals (fyi I love these - the perfect basic sandal, plus they're cushioned!!) - TKEES / Earrings (I also love this pair - how fun for the beach?!) - BaubleBar / Hat - J.Crew

Something you may not know about me? I freaking love the water. I grew up less than a mile from Lake Michigan and in the summer we were there all. the. time.

For those of you who haven't been to the Great Lakes, this isn't some wimpy little beach I'm talking about. Being at the beach in my hometown is seriously like being at the ocean - you know, minus the salt and the sharks. And usually minus a few degrees - that water is cold! But really, that never stopped me. I always ran right in.

Despite all of that beach time, I was never one to lay out for a long time. I don't know if you can tell just by looking at me, but I do not do sun very well ;) My sister actually doesn't have the patience to lay at all, I can do it a little these days (preferably under an umbrella, covered head to toe with SPF 70). But really? I'd rather be in the water!

This little trait of mine has now independently earned me the nickname "The Mermaid" with two different groups of people. I guess the red hair doesn't hurt ;)

What to Pack for a Beach Vacation

Are you going on a trip any time soon? If yes, please tell me that we're in the same boat, and that planning for a trip makes you feel like you need to buy all new things. I don't know what the deal is, but every time I start planning a trip I start thinking that I obviously need a whole new wardrobe to bring with me. Right now we're planning a trip to Southeast Asia at the end of March, and I've basically been shopping non-stop. And, because this particular trip is going to involve a lot of beaches and pools, a lot of the shopping has been for bright and fun pieces - because if you can't wear neon pom-poms at the beach, then when can you wear them?!

I've already added a couple of items to my closet, including this off-the-shoulder dress, these pom-pom earrings, this tote, and the white Lily Pulitzer dress I snagged during the after party sale. I'm hoping to snag a few more things to bring with me though, including some new sandals (because I usually can't handle even looking at my sandals from the year before - gross!) and a few tops with some fun details. But because I'm bad at sticking to the plan of shopping only what I *need* I'll also probably add another new dress or two too - there are just so many cute options out there right now!!

Here are a few things on my current dream beach vacation wishlist:

So, February budget, you'd better watch out. I'm coming for ya ;)

Spring Break Style Part 2

Shirt - Gap / Shorts - Target (old, similar) / Shoes - Sperry / Bag - Coach Factory (similar) / Watch - Michael Kors (old)

I think beach style is my favorite ever.  White shorts, pastels, breezy airy pieces, and boat shoes every day please.  I was so sad to be back in winter clothes this week, can I go back to some more warm and sunny weather?

On another note, I realized it may be time for a new pair of white shorts in my life.  I last wore them last summer.  I've had these babies for eight years now!  They've seen me through gaining and losing 20 pounds (ahem, college) and are now big enough that I can take them on and off without unbuttoning them.  They're also starting to look a little less, well, white.  I also maaaaay have spilled some strawberry daiquiri on them during this trip, whoops!  My one and only spring break casualty.
