Welcome back to that work week. Yikes. Jeff is taking a mental health day today and I'm so jealous. I know everyone is in a different boat with the quarantine, but with a baby at home and full-time job mine has been verrrrry busy!!
Anyway, I wanted to pop in and share a couple of photos from our Easter celebration yesterday! We actually had a really nice day. Mia slept in and then let me dress her up, we made cinnamon rolls (from a can, of course ;) and watched our church service live stream. After church we had some mimosas, the rest of us got dressed up, and we watched The Sound of Music while making a small feast for dinner. While we missed our families, we ended up Facetiming with just about everyone. Here are a few of our pictures!
Happy almost Easter! Do you get tomorrow off of work? I have to go in, but I've previously gotten the day off, and I was always surprised by it. This year my surprise holiday was President's Day instead, which I think was oddly around the same temperature.
This Easter is a weird one for me, because my parents are currently off in Japan with my brother and his wife, and Jeff is headed down to San Antonio with his brother tomorrow to watch the Final Four! He was hoping to see Virginia when they got the tickets, but now is almost as excited to get to see Loyola play. I mean, I haven't watched much March Madness this year, but I'm about ready to hop on the hometown bandwagon solely for Sister Jean - anyone else?
This year we decided to keep the scalloped potatoes and asparagus, but we're going to throw in a ham in too because we're grown-ups now and because it turns out all you have to do is put a ham in the oven and you're good to go. Oh, and we'll try for a little Sound of Music, but who knows, her toddler might dictate that Moana be the feature film of the day. And I won't be mad about it.
Since we're keeping things casual (and because it's still so cold), I'm thinking this Sunday will be a day for comfy clothes. But if I were headed to church or a fancy brunch like we've done in the past, I'd definitely reach for this dress! I snagged it during the Lilly Pulitzer sale in January. I'm usually not into the Lilly patterns (they're a little too crazy for my taste) but something about this one spoke to me - it just screams warm weather, right? I can't wait to break out this little number for real. Hopefully soon.
I don't know about you, but every spring I end up needing to dress up more than I expect. Between weddings, showers, Easter, and work events, I always end up needing a pretty spring dress or two. I looked in my dress closet and realized that most of my pretty spring dresses have been around the block a time or tow, so I've been on the hunt for something new to add to the closet. I actually ordered this one but I have a feeling it isn't quite going to work on me, so the hunt continues! I'm always looking for dresses that are under $150, aren't too revealing (for all of the church events), and have pretty spring colors or details - all of these fit the bill! Which is your favorite?
For Easter this year, I tagged along with the boyfriend and his family to church and then out to brunch. I haven't managed to make it to church in quite a while, but whenever I do go it feels like home. Which was weird in this particular case since I've never been to their church before, and I grew up a different denomination.
Getting dressed for Easter always seems like the ultimate excuse to get a little dressed up and look super spring-y. It was nice enough on Sunday that I could rock bare legs for the first time this year!
For anyone who doesn't believe it's actually windy in Chicago, here's your proof:
This wasn't even a particularly windy day. This is just my standard look when I walk around outside, often accompanied by tears from the sun and wind. The boyfriend says other people must always think we're in a fight because there are always tears in my eyes. Side effect of living a stone's throw away from Lake Michigan I guess.
The wind is always fun though when you're wearing a swingy dress. Big skirts like this always make me feel super feminine. This dress is definitely my new favorite, now I just need to find more excuses to wear it!
