The Cozies

There are some days that you just want to be cozy, amiright? Last weekend we went to a Friendsgiving party, and with all of the turkey and mashed potatoes coming my way, I decided the comfier, the better. Leggings? Check. Oversized sweater? Check. Gigantic scarf that I could wrap around myself and wear as a dress if I wanted? Double check. This was somehow the first time I've worn this scarf since I got it, and you guys, it is the perfect blanket scarf. Not too crazy huge, and super soft.

For the real deal next week, I'll probably be wearing something really similar. I've always wished our family Thanksgivings were a little dressier, you know, so I'd have an excuse to wear my heels and dresses, but alas, we always go super casual. Also, if I try dressing up at all my sister gets mad at me. You should have seen her reaction when I ignored her "tee-shirts only" packing request for our family vacation this summer. She takes her comfortable dressing seriously.

Gift Guide for the Couch Potato

You guys, is it really time for gift guides already?! I actually bought my first gift of the year this week (!!!) so yeah, I guess it is! I've shied away from doing a ton of gift guides in the past because there are so many out there, but they're actually some of my favorite things to read so this year I decided to go for it! If I'm properly motivated, you can expect a gift guide for a different important person in your life every Wednesday through Christmas. So, let's start with the very most important person: the couch potato.

We all have that person in our life who loves staying in and getting cozy - okay, you got me, that person is actually me haha. Give me some comfy slippers, a candle, and a Netflix subscription and I am a happy camper. Lately I've been binging old episodes of Gilmore Girls - is anyone else so excited for the new episodes?! I know what I'll be doing the weekend after Thanksgiving ;)

A Little Red, A Little Plaid

Okay, so how did we get to halfway through November!? I'm not mad about it or anything, I'm just wondering how we got here. The main benefit of this time of year is it's red plaid season!! I got this ruffled collar plaid shirt in the mail last week and was so excited I had to immediately put it on my body. I've maybe worn it three times in the last week. Don't judge me.

Seriously though, if you're starting to think about what you might wear to all of your holiday events, this. shirt. is. it. I mean, it's red. Check. It's plaid. Check. And it has a super adorable ruffle detail. Check. I love it layered here, but it really works well on it's own too (stay tuned for that!) If you're thinking about adding it into your closet I suggest doing it NOW because A) it's so adorable, B) it's currently on sale, and C) some sizes are already sold out so it's going fast!

I'm not sure I necessarily needed this one in my closet though, because it is literally exploding with red plaid button-downs at this point. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with myself come January, but I definitely know what I'll be wearing until then.

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Had a last-minute date night with Jeff at Gather. I say "last-minute" because we weren't planning on going out, and that is definitely a reservations-required kind of restaurant. They were kind enough to squeeze us in at the bar though and feed us all of the wine and cheese, so it's definitely a win. Oh, and another definite win was their street-food style Okonomiyaki, which is basically a Korean pancake covered in awesomeness and basically the best thing ever.
...Drove up to my sister's house in my hometown to babysit her little nugget. We mostly chased my niece in a circle for a two hours and then put her to bed, where she passed out immediately. Babysitter champs. We were planning on ordering in dinner, but my sister and her hubs didn't stay out very late so we didn't get a chance. We decided to go to the neighborhood restaurant before driving an hour home, and were joking in the parking lot about who we might run into at dinner. Well, the joke was on us, because we ran into my grandma, aunts, uncle, and cousin! It's not like I even grew up in a small town, it's actually a pretty big city! Not quite as weird as the time I ran into my whole family on an island in the Bahamas though...
...Noticed the pillows I've been wanting for seriously a year now were on sale and decided to pull the trigger. They perfectly pull together all of our rugs and our artwork, so I definitely needed them, amiright? Oh, I also bought just about everything at Sephora because of the VIB sale (which ends tonight! Check out my picks here).
...Did a lot of accomplishing things, like a grown-up might do. We had some work done on our windows because they were leaking (yay, homeownership!) and now need to do a bit of paining, so we went out and bought all of the supplies for that. I mean, we didn't manage to paint or anything, but I'm still proud of us. This week we also had to buy a surprise ladder that we needed in the middle of the night to change the batteries on a wired-in smoke detector that wouldn't stop beeping. Surprise ladders are totally the best. At least now we own a ladder?
...We also PUT UP OUR CHRISTMAS TREE. Okay, no judging please! We've been a little sad this week and needed something to brighten our day, plus we're hosting a Christmas party right after Thanksgiving, so really we needed to get it up. DIDN'T I SAY NOT TO JUDGE US?!
...Celebrated Friendsgiving! I don't actually like much Thanksgiving food (like yams?! who eats yams?!??!) but I'm always a fan of Friendsgiving, because, well, gravy ;) This year we tried this brussels sprouts recipe, and omg you guys, it was so good. We ended up halving the balsamic, doubling the chicken stock, and adding a little brown sugar like the comments suggested.

Review: FlipSlips Foldable Flats

I've mentioned it kind of a lot of times before, but I have very picky feet. I have a lot of shoes that I love, but can't actually stand to commute in. I had a brief respite where I drove to work, which was absolutely terrible except for the fact that I could wear whatever shoes I want. For the rest of my career I've commuted using public transit, which means a whole lot of walking and a whole lot of standing / holding onto railings and trying not to fall down. 

I love love love all of my shoes, but I end up not wearing them a lot because they end up killing me during that commute, and I hate stashing an extra pair of shoes in my purse because having whatever has touched the bottom of my shoes touch the rest of my shoes is so gross, especially in Chicago! I'm always searching for comfy flats to wear instead, but the search has been mainly futile. I've also tried all matter of foldable flats without luck - they're often like wearing nothing at all. 

I was really excited when FlipSlips reached out to me to try their new foldable flats, because #savemyfeet. Their flats are different than most foldable flats, because they actually flip inside out so the soles don't touch the rest of the stuff in your bag! They also have a super cute ankle strap that doubles as a strap to cinch your flats so they get even smaller. The pair I chose actually came with three extra sets of straps, so I could also go gold, silver, or have a double crossed strap instead. 

Oh, and the best part about these little guys is they're actually comfortable!! They have a pretty thick and cushy sole, so they're actually nice to walk in. They also didn't rub my feet at all during my commute - win!! 

There are a couple of things that did bother me. Since they have a real insole, they aren't the smallest to fit into your bag. I couldn't pop these into a clutch or my smaller cross-bodies. For commuting though I haven't had a problem since I'm always carrying a larger bag. I've mentioned before that I also don't like it when the outline of my toes is visible, but since these are meant to be a commuting shoe versus an all day shoe I can live with it ;) 

I'm so excited that these worked out, because now I have nothing from holding me back from wearing all of my favorite shoes! Lace-up heels, I think we have a date tomorrow ;)
