Navy + Plaid

Shirt (in Black Watch) - L.L. Bean / Sweater and Necklace (similar) - J. Crew Factory / Denim - Madewell / Booties - TOMS / Bag (similar less than $100!) - Coach Factory / Earrings (similar) - c/o Shopbevel

I love love love my red plaid. I was looking through my closet the other day and it is literally taking over. I think I have about 10 options at this point, I could literally wear it every day if I wanted. I'm really glad though that I managed to step back from the obsession and pick up this navy and green plaid shirt too. The more subtle pattern is really easy to wear, and I can see wearing this all winter long (as opposed to those Christmas plaids, which definitely have a defined shelf-life). I love it with this navy sweater because it's basically acting as a neutral, but it also works well on its own or paired with my ever-expanding puffer vest collection.

Oh, and what's even better about this shirt is its flannel, so it's super cozy for the chilly weather coming this week! Did you hear we're supposed to have a "polar blast" tomorrow? So not ready for that!! We're actually heading to adults night at the Lincoln Park Zoo tomorrow night and you had better believe I'm getting super bundled up! Last winter was so mild that I don't think I pulled out my Joan of Arctic boots at all, and since I hadn't worn them in so long I was worried I had lost them or given them away! After a frantic search I'm glad to say that I did locate my giant boots, as well as about a million hats and scarves I forgot I owned, so I should be nice and cozy outside. And if not, there's also a bar at the event that should help to warm me up ;)

Plaid + Vest

Shirt (similar) and Necklace - JCrew Factory / Vest - Old Navy / Jeans - Loft / Boots - Bandolino / Bracelet - Michael Kors / Watch - Kate Spade

Want to place bets on which outfit you're most likely to run into me wearing?  It's definitely this.  I've worn this exact combo an embarrassing number of times over the past couple of weeks. It seems like the perfect mix of fall outdoorsy clothes without actually looking like I'm heading to the duck blind for the day. Although, considering how delicious the duck was a friend cooked for me last weekend (while I was wearing this exact outfit, no less), I'm kind of wishing I had a duck hunting hookup. Or at least more friends who are willing to make me duck at the drop of a hat.

What's your favorite fall outfit?

WWJCD?

Shirt - JCrew Factory / Sweater (similar) and Jeans - Gap / Blazer - JCrew / Boots - Sam Edelman / Necklace - Baublebar / Bracelet - Stella & Dot

Last weekend in Chicago it was fifty degrees out. Five zero. And it's technically still summer. I know I've been talking about wanting to wear my fall clothes, but I meant maybe wearing pants instead of shorts. I could not bear to break out a coat, because, come on. So instead, I asked myself, WWJCD (What Would JCrew Do)?  Layer, of course!  Button down plus sweater plus blazer (plus extra hidden tank underneath it all) definitely held its own against the cold.

Has fall hit your neighborhood yet?

In February, we wear pink.

Every year as soon as February rolls around, I start wearing pink.  I'm not sure if it's because of all of the Valentine's Day stuff floating around, or just because I get really sick of winter and start wearing pastels in hopes that spring will come soon.  Either way, a little pink always makes me happy.

Oh, and yes, that's a little scoop truck behind me in the first picture.  For some reason when it snows in my neighborhood, they bring in little trucks to pick up the snow piles and put them into a dump truck and drive it away.  Does that happen in other places?  I've never seen it anywhere else.

You can also see where I wore this gingham shirt here and here.

Trend Spin Linkup - Layers

Hey everyone!  Today I'm co-hosting the Trend-Spin Linkup with Walking in Memphis in High Heels and The Fashion Canvas.  This week's theme is layers, which I was super excited about because layering is baaaaasically my jam.  You can enter the linkup below.

I finally got a plaid shirt the a couple weeks ago, and now I want to wear it basically every day.  I know I say that with a lot of things, but I'm literally holding myself back with this one.  Don't tell my sister.  I always tease her for wearing a lot of plaid.

I'm starting to get really excited for Thanksgiving.  It's a pretty busy couple of days for me.  On Thanksgiving, we're heading to a Thanksgiving lunch and dinner with different parts of Jeff's family.  Then on Black Friday we meet up with my mom's family for our annual "Christmas Walk" which used to involve walking around downtown Chicago to window shop and lunch, but since all of the cousins hit drinking age it's mostly turned into hanging out at a brewery for an entire afternoon.  On Saturday we're going with my family and some friends up to Wisconsin to cut down Christmas trees and then having a little neighborhood party.  And then I'm going to spend allllll of Sunday laying ;) What are your Thanksgiving plans?

Pink and Gray

I've been super into fall colors lately, but last week I decided I needed a little pink back in my life.

Ensemble: Sparkle Chambray

My favorite outfits are simple but with special details.  This Target sweater has been on major rotation for me over the past couple of months, I mostly want to wear it every time it comes through the wash.

Taking outfit pictures always makes me think about when I used to watch ANTM.  Oh, who am I kidding, I still watch it basically whenever it's on the TV.  Look Tyra, I found the light!

Ensemble: Basic Layers

So, fun story.  I moved into a new place last week and thought the balcony would be a good place to take some outfit pics.  What I didn't realize was, the door to the balcony locks automatically, which put me outside without a coat, cell phone, keys, or money until my boyfriend came home and rescued me. At which point I had ripped off the storm windows to try to break in and propped open every emergency exit in the building.

On another note, I used to always have problems with too much layering because my body reacts very strongly to small temperature changes (apparently this is common among redheads, but I'm not naturally a redhead so I can't really call that one).  Then I discovered layering with teeshirts instead of sweaters, and I've been a happy camper ever since.
