Graphic Tee + Blazer

Tee (similar) and Blazer (similar) - J. Crew / Jeans (similar) - LOFT / Flats - BP / Bag - Old Navy / Earrings - BaubleBar

There's something about the combo of a tee and a blazer that always gets me - I love the mix of casual and dressy. Paired with some fancy flats and blinged-out earrings that I forgot to photograph (hand palm) and I was ready to party - I wore this to my cousin's surprise party last week. Combos that mix dressier and more casual pieces are perfect when you don't quite know what the dress code is - they help you feel appropriate in any situation. I could have worn this for a dinner date, running errands, or even work (because we don't have a dress code - I assume distressed jeans may not be okay in your workplace!).

In unrelated news, I keep getting requests for a tutorial for how I curl my hair - is that something you'd like to see?

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Went to a little early Saint Patrick's Day party with some of our friends, which I must say was a little weird without drinking! We're halfway done with our dry month and while I haven't found it particularly hard I think Jeff is ready for it to be over ;)
...Met up with some friends for dinner at The Bristol, where weirdly my favorite thing was an apple salad. Usually I go for all meat all the time haha. We also got a gigantic ravioli that had a poached egg inside of it - so good!
...Hosted all of our parents for a big dinner at our house on our new dining room table and made these deep dish chocolate chip cookies for dessert, and ohhhh my gee. Best thing ever.
...Saw Bridge of Spies, and I have to say, meh. I felt like it was trying to be suspenseful without actually being suspenseful. My eyes-on-phone percentage was startlingly high haha.
...Put a heavy hit on my credit card with the online shopping - excited to get this gingham-lined coat in the mail! I'm also trying out a pair of Tieks since I need some comfy shoes for standing all day at tradeshows. Have you tried Tieks? Are they worth the price?
...Had some contractors over for a final walkthru of our roof because construction on our deck should be starting in the next week!! I'm so excited to have a deck for this summer!

I hope you had a good one!

Easter Dresses

Holy cow, Easter is right around the corner! I guess it's early this year, but I still can't believe it's almost here. When I was little, getting dressed for Easter always meant a frilly, lacy dress and some kind of weird hat. What can I say, it was the eighties. As I got older the holiday became more and more casual in my family, so I got used to throwing on jeans and a nice sweater and calling it a day. Then I started dating Jeff. Now Easter means buying a new dress (oh who am I kidding, I'll probably be wearing this pretty dress again) and, depending on the weather, braving bare legs and maybe some heels.

I've been on the hunt for some new dresses, here are a few of my favorites (in all colors of the rainbow because I just couldn't help myself). If you don't celebrate Easter or come from a more casual family like mine, these would also be great for all of those bridal or baby showers that pop up every spring.

Here are a few more favorites I found:

So tell me, do you dress up for Easter? What would you wear?

Gray Skies

Sweater - LOFT (a birthday gift!) / Tee - J. Crew Factory / Leggings - Zella / Boots - Sperry / Necklace - BaubleBar / Bracelet - Michael Kors / Bag (similar) - Old Navy

When the weather is a bit drab, all I want to wear is all of my comfiest clothes. A big cozy sweater, my comfiest tee, and leggings definitely do the trick. I wore this last weekend to go out to brunch with Jeff, and it turns out eggs benny helped me get over the weather too ;)

I'm really hoping that these pictures will be the last of the year with any snow in them, even though it's just a few patches. We've been treated with temperatures in the 50's & 60's this week and I'm definitely hoping the trend continues - my closet is full of cute spring clothes I can't wait to wear!

Spacedye & Druzies

Dress - c/o Shein / Jacket (similar) - Old Navy / Booties - TOMS / Necklace - BaubleBar (a gift!) / Bag - Kate Spade / Bracelet - BaubleBar

Little swing dresses have been all I've wanted lately. I have a long sleeve version, but the hint of spring we've been getting on the weekends had me wanting a short sleeve version too. You know, since I'll be able to have bare arms in three months or so. I'm super loving this spacedye pattern, and wish I could rock it with bare legs!

Can we talk about how pretty this druzy necklace is? Jeff got it for me for my birthday, and supposedly he picked it out all by himself. He said he chose it because I have "a bunch like it already," but, um, no I don't. Or at least, I don't have any druzy necklaces, I suppose to Jeff it's exactly the same as any other colored stone ;) I'd never really considered druzies or other natural stones before, but now I don't know why I've ignored them. The texture adds a little something extra, and the way it catches the light is really pretty. I'm also really loving the color - it's so perfect for spring!

And now let's chat about my moto jacket. I've had it in my closet for six or seven years now, and it's still my go-to pick. The moto cut is so flattering for any girl with curves, and I love the hint of edge it can add to any outfit. And, and, it's from Old Navy! I'm amazed that it's held up that long - just goes to show that they do put out some quality items. I'm guessing that when you compare the amount I spent on it versus the number of wears, it would equate to less than a penny for each time I've worn it.

This Weekend...

This weekend I...

...Finally saw Spotlight, and let me say, it definitely lived up to the hype.
...Tried the pasta maker again! Jeff bought me a pasta drying rack for my birthday (last time I maybe made him take his shirts off their hangers so we could use those for hanging linguine ;) so we decided to give pasta-making another go. It still didn't quite work right, so I did a lot of reading up on different methods and am excited to try again soon.
...Dragged Jeff to the outlet ball in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. Whoops. Let's just say he did not enjoy himself haha. But on the bright side I got to return a few things and shop for a couple of gifts.
...Went to a surprise party for one of my cousins, and let me tell you, it was the most surprised I've ever seen a surprise party recipient. It probably helped that we hid in separate rooms and revealed ourselves at different times haha.
...Tried out brunch at River Valley, and holy fried chicken and biscuit benedict!!
...Had some beautiful weather on Sunday and tried out the new grill again - this time we went for salmon ;)

It was a much more chill weekend than usual, partially because Jeff and I decided to give up drinking for the month. So far it's been surprisingly easy, but I guess we're still only a couple of days in ;)

How was your weekend? Did you get up to anything fun?

The One Piece

We've been planning a couple of family trips for this summer, which has me daydreaming about swimsuits and coverups. I love one pieces, they can be so fun and sexy with cutouts, sheer paneling, low backs, and fun straps, but still leave me feeling comfortable on the beach, especially when I'm around Jeff's family. This year I'm moving away from basic black and looking for fun patterns and colors instead. Here are a few that have caught my eye!
Do you have any trips coming up? Going somewhere fun?
